Multi-section

This example presents a gas with a temperature limit and is typically found in a halogen mixture. A multi-section compressor is required in accommodate the limit. This example illustrates one approach for the division of work between the sections to achieve a discharge temperature within the specified bound. 

Ov Crall, the careful design of a distributor for liquid in the top of a packed tower, and for the redistribution of liquid flowing dow n multi-section packing in the tower, is essential to good consistent tower performance. However, the liquid flow is not alone, the uniformity of vapor distribution is likewise essential, because non-uniform vapor distribution can cause non-uniform liquid downflow. Then, there is the selection of the packing itself and its characteristics and requirements/sensitivity to the uniform distribution of the liquid and vapor. As earlier emphasized, the level of the distributor tray or trough can be critical to the consistent uniform liquid distribution. 

In tire tests, therefore, a stiffer tire construction reduces the wear. The stiffer construction not only includes the carcass and belt (i.e., height to width ratio), but also the tread pattern and the stiffness of the tread compound. Therefore, a correct road test requires two identical vehicles, each equipped with a test group of four identical tires. If this is not possible at least one axle has to have identical tires. If this is not the case an average slip will balance the acting force on the axle. This will be larger for the stiffer tire than is required if both tires had the same stiffness and smaller for the softer tire. Hence, the result is falsified to the advantage of the softer tire. The same argument holds for multi-section tires. 

If multi-section tires or experimental and control tires are mounted on the same axle, as is often the case for tests with truck tires on commercial fleets, the inverse of the above relation should be applied because the tires are now running under an imposed common slip. For the stiffer compound the slip is now larger and for the softer it is smaller and the stiffer compound becomes poorer and the soft compound becomes better than would be the case if whole tires of the same group had been mounted on the same axle. 

It is seen that a good agreement is only reached if equal shp conditions are assumed, with a correlation coefficient of 0.977, demonstrating also how misleading tire road test results can be if multi-section tires are used or tires of different stiffness due to either different constmctions or modulus differences of the tread compounds.

Prayon One of the Wet processes for making phosphoric acid by reacting phosphate rock with sulfuric acid. The byproduct is gypsum, calcium sulfate dihydrate. It uses a compartmentalized, multi-section, lined, concrete reactor, with finishing tanks in which the gypsum crystals mature. In 1990 one third of the wet process phosphoric acid made in the Western World was made in this way. The process was developed in 1977 by the Societe de Prayon, Belgium. Variations are known as PH2, PHI 1, and PH12. One variation uses solvent extraction with isopropyl ether and tri-n-butyl phosphate.

Tjrpical width of sections for multi-section pads is 12 inches (300 mm) but may vary by manufacturer.
