The Science and Technology Agency of Japan (STA) commits JCAC to perform maintenance and improve the reliability of monitoring data by means of implementation of the following items. 

While monitoring data of total CPs and LCCPs are available, no data of SCCPs alone are available in Japan. In order to supplement the information on concentrations of SCCPs in the domestic environment by obtaining the measured concentrations of SCCPs in Japan, AIST conducted its own monitoring in the Kanto and Kansai regions, which have many industrial plants and large populations. 

Regarding the SCCP concentrations in food, no monitoring data are available in Japan. To supplement the information on SCCP concentrations in food by obtaining the data of food in Japan, a market basket survey was conducted by AIST to measure the SCCP concentrations in food. Based on the results of this survey, the relevance of the estimated concentrations in food is confirmed, and the daily intake of SCCPs in humans is estimated. 

For validation of applicability of our models to the Japanese environment, we calculated environmental concentrations of a number of chemicals, and compared the calculated concentrations with monitoring data conducted by the Environment Agency of Japan [3,5,9]. 

In 1979, the joint center for three international organizations (UNEP, FAO, and WHO) monitoring food product contamination started collecting relevant data. Generalized information covered the period from 1971 onward it was collected widely, from Australia, New Zealand and Japan to Great Britain, Canada, and the USA [79]. The Soviet Union did not feature on this list ... 

The data of POPs monitoring showed us general overview of the status of local pollution in Japan, although there seems to be some information from which regional/global scale information might be inferred.

BL spectrum, entire photon flux, O2 concentration and pH were recorded by a home-made system reported previously with some modification. In this system, a Keyence NR-2000 DATA acquisition system (Osaka, Japan) was employed for the real-time data monitoring. The O2 concentration was measured by a Clark type O2 electrode, of which calibration was carried out by using air-saturated water and 0.4 mol/L sodium sulfite. 

The problem of assessment and monitoring of water resources and water quality is aggravated because of an extremely uneven density of hydrometeorological networks. It varies from a dense network in Japan to only a few gauges in the Tibetan high mountainous regions. This makes a proper assessment of water resources and water quality a very difficult task. The development of comprehensive data and information system is of crucial importance for many Asian countries. Some examples of development of such a system are shown now in India, Thailand and Sri Lanka.
