Monatomic phenols

An azo coupling reaction of monatomic phenols with diazotized 4-nitroaniline has been investigated. By HPLC, NMR, elemental analysis, UV and IR spectroscopy it has been shown that the azo derivatives of o-guaiacol, o- and m-cresols interact with an excess of diazonium in pH interval of 4,5-9,5 and form corresponding 4,4-di(4-nitrophenylazo)-2,5-cyclohexadien-1 -ones. 

The results obtained have allowed us to develop the analytical procedures for the preconcentration and determination of microquantities of the monatomic phenols, aromatic amines and total volatile primary amines by HPLC and photometric methods. 

The pol Tners s Tithesis is recommended to be carried out in inert gas atmosphere at temperatures 50-450 °C. If catalysts used are the salts of carbonic or hydrofluoric acids then oligomers appear. Chain length regulators when producing polyesterketones based on difluoro- or dichlorbenzophe-none and bisphenolates of alkali metals and dihydrox5maphthalenes can be the monatomic phenols [251-253],... 

The nitro-compounds, which are almost the only class in which a monatomic group acts as chromophor, would also be difficult to bring under the above ring classification. There is no doubt, however, that in amido- and hydroxyl derivatives of nitro-bodies there is a certain relationship between the nitro-group and the liydroxyl or amido-group. It is not improbable that the nitro-phenols possess a similar constitution to the nitrosophenols, which are now generally regarded as quinoneoximes. VThe azo-dye-stuffs are a class of bodies the properties of which are not in accordance with their constitution, and this is especially marked in the first member of the series, azobenzene.
