We will focus on the development of ruthenium-based metathesis precatalysts with enhanced activity and applications to the metathesis of alkenes with nonstandard electronic properties. In the class of molybdenum complexes [7a,g,h] recent research was mainly directed to the development of homochi-ral precatalysts for enantioselective olefin metathesis. This aspect has recently been covered by Schrock and Hoveyda in a short review and will not be discussed here [8h]. In addition, several important special topics have recently been addressed by excellent reviews, e.g., the synthesis of medium-sized rings by RCM [8a], applications of olefin metathesis to carbohydrate chemistry [8b], cross metathesis [8c,d],enyne metathesis [8e,f], ring-rearrangement metathesis [8g], enantioselective metathesis [8h], and applications of metathesis in polymer chemistry (ADMET,ROMP) [8i,j]. Application of olefin metathesis to the total synthesis of complex natural products is covered in the contribution by Mulzer et al. in this volume. [Pg.228]

Transition metal complexes of unsaturated 1,2-dithiolates (metal dithiolenes) have attracted much attention because of their interesting structural and redox properties.169 Molybdenum dithiolene complexes have featured prominently170 in these studies and have special significance following the suggestion171,172 that the molybdenum-containing cofactor of the oxomolybdoen-zymes (Section 36.6.7) incorporates a molybdenum complex of an unsymmetrically substituted alkene-1,2-dithiolate. [Pg.1436]

Synthetic protein-like polymers containing amino acids find pharmaceutical and biological applications and display self-assembly properties [174], In this aspect, both ROMP and ADMET have been used as tools for the polymerization of amino acid-based monomers. Early ROMP examples date back to 1994 with the synthesis and ROMP of amino acid-derived homochiral norbomene monomers by Coles et al [175], The molybdenum complex [Mo(=CHCMe2Ph)(=NC6H3Pr,2-2,6)(OBu )2]... [Pg.36]

A wide series of ferrocenyl-molybdenum complexes of known redox properties bear the tris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borato ligand or the N,iV, N"-trimethyl-l,4,7-triazacyclononane ligand. They are illustrated in Scheme 7-7 [55 — 59]. [Pg.335]

From the above discussion it follows that tetravalent and hexavalent thorium, uranium, and plutonium can be separated from the trivalent rare-earth fission products by taking advantage of differences in complexing properties. More highly charged cation fission products, such as tetravalent cerium and the fifth-period transition elements zirconium, niobium, molybdenum, technetium, and ruthenium, complex more easily than the trivalent rare-earths and are more difficult to separate from uranium and plutonium by processes involving complex formation. [Pg.412]

The donor properties of the methyl group provide a preference for the substituted end of the olefin to be trans to one of the ligands. Thus the inherent instability of the endo isomer and the interaction of the methyl group with the ring are partially overcome. The rotational barriers of substituted olefin derivatives in the molybdenum complexes (AG —13-... [Pg.227]

The well-known coordination chemistry of molybdenum suggests a distinct relationship between acid-base and redox properties of molybdenum complexes and that a coupled electron-proton transfer (to or from the substrate) maybe mediated by molybdoenzymes. Simple molecular mechanisms... [Pg.93]
