Molecularly doped polymer concept

In Chap. 3, Sergei Baranovski presents various important theoretical concepts relevant to the transport theory of organic glasses, molecularly doped polymers and... [Pg.338]

Most practical polymer-based electrophotographic photoreceptor systems now in use are in fact solid solutions of an active species in a binder host polymer 11). This system concept embodies the notion of full chemical control of the transport process. Thus, the concentration of dopant molecules directly controls the drift mobility, which is in turn controlled by the overlap of wave functions between active sites. The host polymer binder is then specialized for its mechanical and adhesive properties. Understanding the key features of small-molecule transport provides guidelines for the optimization of injected-carrier range. The key point is to understand how chemically induced traps arise in such systems and how molecularly doped materials containing various contaminants in substantial quantities can still efficiently transport charge. (Even part-per-million concentrations of con-... [Pg.471]

Molecularlv Doped Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polymer. The idea of the nonlinear optical medium which is the subject of this paper results from a synthesis of the ideas of the discussion above and a few concepts from nonlinear optical molecular and crystal physics. As discusssed several places in this volume, it is known that certain classes of molecules exhibit tremendously enhanced second-order... [Pg.112]

Properties of representative conducting polymers. Doped conjugated polymers have generated substantial interest in view of possible applications such as lightweight batteries, antistatic equipment, and microelectronics to speculative concepts such as molecular electronic devices.37-38 These polymers include doped polyacetylene, polyaniline, polypyrrole, and other polyheterocycles (Figure 5). While the conduction mechanism of metals and inorganic semiconductors is well understood and utilized in microelectronics, this is not true to the same... [Pg.300]

Next, we discuss the concept of phonon-assisted reactions. In relation to thermal reactions, they can be assisted by phonon-mode softening leading to large-amplitude overdamped oscillations. In the case of a photochemical reaction, a strong electron-phonon coupling can assist in polymerization. Then some non-linear spectroscopic studies are discussed which illuminate on the dynamics of photopolymerization process. Then follows a discussion of results on reaction in a different kind of molecular assembly, the Langmuir-Blodgett films. Finally, some gas-solid interface reactions which produce polymers in a doped state are discussed. [Pg.107]
