Split mold

The mold designs available are draw molds, split molds, cored molds, flexible molds, and plaster molds. [Pg.126]

Weld line With moldings that include openings (holes), problems can develop. In the process of filling a cavity the flowing melt is obstructed by the core, splits its stream, and surrounds the core. The split stream then... [Pg.185]

Undercut Whether external or internal, undercuts should be avoided if possible to reduce mold cost (by about 25 to 30%) and simplify melt flow during molding. However many molds use external and/or internal undercuts. In cases where it is essential to incorporate them in a design, appropriate mold design is required. The mold will include action such as sliding components on tapered surfaces, split cavity cam actions to produce the needed undercut, etc. (Chapter 8, TOOLING)... [Pg.187]

Products in this process can have deep sections and relatively sharp comers. However RM flat, particularly large relatively uniform wall thickness surfaces are difficult if not impossible to produce. This process can be used to mold complex products that may require three or four split molds. Also, different finished surfaces are obtained. For example, the products surface finish is dictated by the inside surface of the mold. This makes it easy to obtain smooth as well as textured surfaces on the product. Raised or depressed letters, fluting, and other decorative inscriptions may also be molded. [Pg.201]

We test the impact resistance of polymer plaques using the configuration shown in Fig. 8.8. We subject circular injection molded plaques to the shock of a falling weight with a hemispherical impacter. This test is also known as the Dart Drop Test . Samples can fail in a brittle or a ductile manner. Brittle samples often shatter. Ductile samples can split or a small disk may be punched out of their center. This test provides results that are analogous to those obtained from un-notched impact beam testing. [Pg.167]

A special split tensile specimen mold was made to measure tensile properties of propellant during cure. A miniature casting is made in a dumbbell-shaped mold. The gage section of the mold is split axially so that it can be removed to expose the partially cured propellant. The mold is placed in a tensile tester, and the specimen is pulled with the end parts in place. Figure 17 shows that during the early stages of cure... [Pg.31]

Built-Up Mica. When the primary properly needed for a particular application is insulation, built-up mica made hy binding layered mica splittings together serves as a substitute for the more expensive sheet mica. The principal uses for built-up mica are segment pluic. molding plate, flexible plate, healer plate, and [ape. [Pg.994]

In Fig. 13.8, Sample 1 shows that the outline (shape) of the front is circular in the deep section and becomes somewhat distorted upon entering the thinner region. The flow is split by the T insert and reunites past the insert, forming a weld line. The location and the shape of the weld line are determined by the flow profile around the insert. The insert strongly affects the direction of the advancing front which, as we see later, determines the direction of molecular orientation. We would expect, therefore, a highly nonuniform orientation distribution in such a mold. [Pg.763]

Polymethylsiloxanes can also be obtained by the hydrolytic copolycondensation of methylchlorosilanes of various functionality. Thus, by the hydrolytic copolycondensation of methyltrichlorosilane and dimethyldichlo-rosilane one can obtain thermosetting polymethylsiloxane, which quickly solidifies at a relatively low temperature (approximately 150 °C) without any catalysts. It is used as a binding agent in pressure compositions, as well as as a 5% petrol solution to treat the surface of metal pressure molds to facilitate their splitting when molding polymer materials. [Pg.286]

First station usually has multiple preform injection molds where preforms are formed over core pins. The preforms have hemispherical closed ends (resembles a laboratory test tube). The other ends have an open bore, formed by the core pin. External details, such as the thread and neck flange for a screw-top container, are directly produced by injection molding. While the preform is still hot, the injection split mold is opened and the preforms, still on the core pins, are rotated to the blowing station two. Here the preforms are enclosed within the blow mold, and introducing blowing air through the core pins followed with cooling produces the BM. Blow molds opened and the finished products, still on the core pins, are rotated to an ejection station where they are stripped off mechanically and/or air. [Pg.296]
