When no high accuracy alignment is needed and low pressure is used in UV-NIL, the mechanical properties of the mold can be relaxed. Then, mold copies can also be obtained by replicating elastomeric materials like Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), which is a soft UV-transparent material in the 340-600 nm wavelength region [111, 112]. Finally, the ultimate stamp copy process was presented by Obducat with the Intermediate Polymer Stamp [113]. Here, the polymer stamp is used only once, avoiding any mold contamination or erosion issues. 

Injection molding is employed to stamp out copies of the master discs from polycarbonate. The molded polycarbonate discs are cooled and hardened quickly, within about 4—6 sec, and evenly. The dye layer is then applied. The applied dyes are often proprietary and continually modified in an attempt to get a better dye. The dye must be compatible with the system and adhere to the polycarbonate base. It is applied by spin coating i.e., the disc is spun and the dye is sprayed onto the surface. The dye is then dried and cured. 

One of the most impressive applications of polysiloxanes, particularly in the arts, is their use in making molds of intricate surfaces. This is illustrated in Figure 4.18. In this case, the surface to be copied was vertical and non-movable, so a non-slumping end-linkable paste had to be used rather than a liquid. After the surface was coated, it was cured to give a remarkably faithful reproduction that was easily removable from the original surface.

Low-molecular silicone elastomers are a basis for rubber membranes which are used in the production of containers for prolonged storage of fruit, vegetables and other kinds of food. Sealants from low-molecular silicone elastomers are more and more often used to copy articles with complex configurations. The sealant is poured to make a mold which is then filled with molding mixture. This technique is used to copy works of art, in criminalistics (to fix prints), in dentistry (to make models for dentures), etc. 

Once the master disk is created, copies can be produced quickly and cheaply (the cost of a CD is estimated at less than 1). Injection molded polycarbonate replicas made from the master disk are coated with aluminum to increase reflectivity, then sealed in protective plastic.

The major disadvantage of in-mold labeling is the increased process complexity, and the required investment in capital equipment. It is not well suited to small production runs or where label copy changes frequently, even if bottles do not. Some experts claim in-mold labeling increases overall cycle time by 1.5 to 3.3 s, but others claim cycle time is not increased. 

All, even nonadditive, manufacturing processes or process chains that support to make tools, tool inserts, dies, and molds faster and cheaper than it was possible with traditional tool making but for a lower production outcome. The term includes aU kinds of copying or secondary rapid prototyping processes like vacuum casting. 

AM is also used to make kernels and molds for sand casting, lost pattern and molds for precision casting, and master models for copying techniques. Tools for lost wax casting and sand casting are not mentioned as well as copying techniques.
