Mold casting processes

It is often essential to attain the maximum possible loading density (especially in shaped charges). This is done by casting and pressing methods, such as Vacuum, sedimentation, and mold-casting processes. [Pg.264]

Methacrylate polymerizations are accompanied by the Hberation of a considerable amount of heat and a substantial decrease in volume. Both of these factors strongly influence most manufacturing processes. Excess heat must be dissipated to avoid uncontrolled exothermic polymerizations. Volume changes are particularly important in sheet-casting processes where the mold must compensate for the decreased volume. In general, the percent shrinkage decreases as the size of the alcohol substituent increases on a molar basis, the shrinkage is relatively constant (35). [Pg.263]

Synthetic Marble. Synthetic marble-like resin products are prepared by casting or molding a highly filled monomer mixture or monomer—polymer symp. When only one smooth surface is required, a continuous casting process using only one endless stainless steel belt can be used (52,53). Typically on the order of 60 wt % inorganic filler is used. The inorganic fillers, such as aluminum hydroxide, calcium carbonate, etc, are selected on the basis of cost, and such properties as the translucence, chemical and water resistance, and ease of subsequent fabrication (54,55). [Pg.265]

The Hquid monomers are suitable for bulk polymerization processes. The reaction can be conducted in a mold (casting, reaction injection mol ding), continuously on a conveyor (block and panel foam production), or in an extmder (thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers and engineering thermoplastics). Also, spraying of the monomers onto the surface of suitable substrates provides insulation barriers or cross-linked coatings. [Pg.342]

Centrifugal casting Process in which tubular products are fabricated through the application of resin and glass strand reinforcement to the inside of a mold that is rotated and heated. The process polymerizes the resin system. [Pg.148]

Mold This process is particularly suited economically to producing small production runs and large-sized products, because molds are not subjected to relatively any pressure during molding and inexpensive thin sheet metal molds can thus be used in many applications. Lightweight cast aluminum and... [Pg.200]

One of the major advantages of plastics optical elements is that they can me made by different processes such as injection molding, casting, or extrusion to good accuracy at low cost. Some glass lenses are pressed from hot glass but the majority of the lenses... [Pg.235]
