The spectrum exhibits maxima at 281 and 223 nm with molar absorptivities of 4,768 and 14,400, respectively. When aqueous potassium hydroxide is added to the methanolic solution of dobutamine hydrochloride the maxima at 281 and 223 shift to 293 (e=6,100) and 240 nm, respectively. Salem et al. [48] reported simple and accurate methods for the quantitative determination of flufenamic, mefenamic and tranexamic acids utilizing precipitation reactions with cobalt, cadmium and manganese. The acidic drugs were precipitated from their neutral alcoholic solutions with cobalt sulfate, cadmium nitrate or manganese chloride standard solutions followed by direct determination of the ions in the precipitate or indirect determination of the ions in the filtrate by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The optimum conditions for precipitation were carefully studied. The molar ratio of the reactants was ascertained. Statistical analysis of the results compared to the results of the official methods revealed equal precision and accuracy. In an excellent paper, Zhao et al. [29] assembled a carefully reviewed literature set of human absorption data on 241 drugs. They showed that a linear regression model built with 5 Abraham descriptors could fit percent human absorption data reasonably well (r2 = 0.83, RMSE = 14%). The descriptors are excess molar refraction (E), polarizability (S), hydrogen bond acidity (A), hydrogen bond basicity (B), and McGowan volume (V), all related to lipophilicity, hydrophilicity, and size. In a follow-on paper, data on rat absorption for 151 drugs was collected from the literature and modeled using the Abraham descriptors [30].
