Modified time-histories

Statistical measures such as mean-squared value may then be evaluated and used in later tests. In addition, the modified time-histories of the state variables in in will have been calculated ... [Pg.319]

To formalize the main hypothesis, the nonisothermal functional given by Eq. (16.1) is modified by a new isothermic functional with a modified time scale to account for the temperature history. Now, according to the basic hypothesis of linear theory, the specific form of the stress-strain relationship can be written as... [Pg.706]

Although the above formulation was presented for displacement time history, it can be easily modified for velocity or acceleration measurements. In this case the right hand side of Equations (3.4) or (3.17) can be modified with the corresponding expressions for velocity or acceleration. Of course, the case of relative acceleration with white noise excitation is not realistic since the response variance is infinity. However, the absolute acceleration measurements can be considered for ground excitation. Another choice is to utilize a band-limited excitation model. [Pg.109]

The generation of variable seismic excitation has been extensively studied. The method developed by Shinozuka (1971) remains the most popular. This method has been extended and modified by others to take into account nonstationarity of processes (Deodatis 1996). A spectral-representation-based simulation algorithm has been developed by Deodatis (1996). The simulation uses the coherency function and allows the generation of acceleration as well as displacement time histories. This latter is necessary while performing non linear structural analysis. A recent method developed by Benmansour et al. (2012) solves the problem of integrability of seismic motion to avoid the use of baseline correction. [Pg.3360]

Although the use of simple diluents and adulterants almost certainly predates recorded history, the use of fillers to modify the properties of a composition can be traced as far back as eady Roman times, when artisans used ground marble in lime plaster, frescoes, and po22olanic mortar. The use of fillers in paper and paper coatings made its appearance in the mid-nineteenth century. Functional fillers, which introduce new properties into a composition rather than modify pre-existing properties, were commercially developed eady in the twentieth century when Goodrich added carbon black to mbber and Baekeland formulated phenol— formaldehyde plastics with wood dour. [Pg.366]

Errors in the use of the instantaneous recycling approximation need to be considered, depending on the assumed history of star formation and mass ejection. After long times, e.g. 15 Gyr, low-mass stars eject relatively metal-poor material and modify the distribution in a similar way to what happens in some of the inflow models discussed below. However, it is still rather doubtful whether any Simple model can explain the abundance distribution function as well as satisfying other constraints. [Pg.274]

We need to learn about the range of modifiability for each of our behavioral characteristics. We must know about innate learning dispositions such as our indoctrinability (Eibl-Eibesfeldt and Salter 1997, in print), be they helpful or maladaptive, and if so in what situations. History and the study of the cultural manifestations of man in historical and prehistorical time provide a wealth of experiments to be studied. As a natural next... [Pg.17]

Alkaloidal applications can be found in different areas of the economy, industry, trade and services. The applicable characteristics of alkaloids are both chemical ones and the ability to be isolated as pure molecules or to be modified. The specific activity and utilization is a basis for the applications. Alkaloids have been used throughout history in folk medicine in different regions around the world. They have been a constituent part of plants used in phytotherapy. Generally speaking, many of the plants that contain alkaloids are just medicinal plants and have been used as herbs. From the times of Hippocrates (460-377 BCE),... [Pg.181]

The reason for the referral, as well as the person(s) referring the child, determines the social context of the identified problem. Pre-interview screening can help provide preliminary background information in a time-efficient manner and define the context for the referral. Figure 31.1 contains highlights from a developmental history questionnaire that can be used as a template or be adapted and modified to individual practice settings and needs. This type of questionnaire should be sent... [Pg.391]

Contours of peak temperature (K) in asteroids as functions of size (diameter) and heliocentric distance. Accretion times corresponding to various solar distances are given at the top of the figure. Shaded vertical bars mark major divisions in the asteroid belt based on spectral interpretations of asteroid thermal histories. Modified from Grimm and McSween (1993). [Pg.406]

Brief History. R.J. is a 57-year-old woman who was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer 1 year ago, at which time she underwent a modified radical mastectomy followed by antineoplastic drugs. The cancer, however, had evidently metastasized to other tissues, including bone. She recently developed pain in the lumbosacral region, which was attributed to metastatic skeletal lesions in the lower lumbar vertebrae. She was admitted to the hospital to pursue a course of radiation treatment to control pain and minimize bony... [Pg.586]
