Although the above formulation was presented for displacement time history, it can be easily modified for velocity or acceleration measurements. In this case the right hand side of Equations (3.4) or (3.17) can be modified with the corresponding expressions for velocity or acceleration. Of course, the case of relative acceleration with white noise excitation is not realistic since the response variance is infinity. However, the absolute acceleration measurements can be considered for ground excitation. Another choice is to utilize a band-limited excitation model.

The generation of variable seismic excitation has been extensively studied. The method developed by Shinozuka (1971) remains the most popular. This method has been extended and modified by others to take into account nonstationarity of processes (Deodatis 1996). A spectral-representation-based simulation algorithm has been developed by Deodatis (1996). The simulation uses the coherency function and allows the generation of acceleration as well as displacement time histories. This latter is necessary while performing non linear structural analysis. A recent method developed by Benmansour et al. (2012) solves the problem of integrability of seismic motion to avoid the use of baseline correction. 

Although the use of simple diluents and adulterants almost certainly predates recorded history, the use of fillers to modify the properties of a composition can be traced as far back as eady Roman times, when artisans used ground marble in lime plaster, frescoes, and po22olanic mortar. The use of fillers in paper and paper coatings made its appearance in the mid-nineteenth century. Functional fillers, which introduce new properties into a composition rather than modify pre-existing properties, were commercially developed eady in the twentieth century when Goodrich added carbon black to mbber and Baekeland formulated phenol— formaldehyde plastics with wood dour. 

Errors in the use of the instantaneous recycling approximation need to be considered, depending on the assumed history of star formation and mass ejection. After long times, e.g. 15 Gyr, low-mass stars eject relatively metal-poor material and modify the distribution in a similar way to what happens in some of the inflow models discussed below. However, it is still rather doubtful whether any Simple model can explain the abundance distribution function as well as satisfying other constraints.
