Dental investments are comprised of refractory materials capable of withstanding elevated temperatures. They are used as casting investments and model investments. The compressive strengths, according to International Standards, of the investments and die materials are shown in Table 3. 

Model Investments. Model investments are materials used for noncasting operations in the fabrication of dental protheses. They differ from casting investments in various ways depending on the prosthetic device being constmcted. For low temperature operations, such as soldering, gypsum is used phosphate-bonded materials are employed for higher solder temperatures or for the fabrication of porcelain veneers.

In contrast, Samuelson and Wolfson (1986) exclude variable capital in their calculation of investment. Examination of Table 7.1 shows their calculation to be incorrect. In year 1, for example, total savings of 25,000 are equal to 20,000 investment in additional constant capital plus 5,000 investment in additional variable capital. This approach to modelling investment in Marx s reproduction schema has been introduced in Chapter 3.

Taxes are largely immaterial for pension funds, foundations, endowments, and offshore investors because of their exempt status. Mean-variance asset allocation can be applied directly for these investors as already described. However, for domestic investors, taxes are a critical issue that must be considered in modeling investment choices.

Again, Martens states that this type of valuation gives more value to the time of the privileged at the expense of the poor. Thus modeling investment in such a way will with no doubt give decision makers grounds to invest more where the privileged are located.
