Mixing apparatus

This last solution should be prepared slowly as it is quite exothermic. Set all three aside in a freezer. Now prepare the mixing apparatus which will be a stainless steel "mixing bowl" suspended In the ice/salt bath made earlier. We use a stainless steel bowl here so that heat transfer will be maximal, while preventing any corrosive interaction. A glass bowl will not be sufficient for larger scale preparations as it will not conduct heat fast enough to prevent the reactants from going over IOC (at which point the Haloamide will decompose and you ll have to start over). Take the Sodium Hydroxide solution out of the freezer once it is cool, but not cold. [Pg.262]

Mechanically stirred gas-liquid reactor performances are affected by the degree of mixing, apparatus geometry, stirring power, flow rate, discharge and feed locations for the gas and liquid. For a correct design, the following requirements must be satisfied ... [Pg.1537]

On the other hand, economically advantageous routes by continuous baking process have also been described in recent years. The processes are carried out in self-cleaning mixing apparatus such as double screw extruders. More recent patent literature claims yields as high as 80%. [Pg.429]

A number of Co(III) complexes, such as Co(edta) and Co(phen)3, can be resolved into optical isomers and are extremely stable towards racemization. The Co(II) analogs are configurationally labile and resolution has proved impossible. Suggest how with a double mixing apparatus it might be possible to measure half-lives in the 10 -1 s range for the first-order racemization of the Co(Il) complexes. [Pg.192]

Motion pictures still lack the odor dimension. Experimental scent movies are improving. The Science City in Paris features a small theater that screens films with an odor component. Scent cans on a carousel rotate in position, get activated, and an air stream blows odors toward the viewer at the appropriate scene. A more recent computer-controlled mixing apparatus can provide many more odor combinations. [Pg.422]

The technology does not treat wastes but is used as a mixing apparatus in conjunction with other treatment technologies such as flotation (used to separate coal agglomerates), traditional screening, and sedimentation (both used to separate solids). [Pg.1023]

In 1999, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) prepared a cost estimate for PET treatment of salt wastes containing heavy metals and organics. The estimate compared PET treatment with the current baseline (cement encapsulation). It is assumed that waste loading for the cement system would be 10%, while the PET system would allow for a 30% waste loading. An analysis of operations and maintenance for the PET system was not performed. It was assumed that the basic mixing apparatus and extruder could be purchased off the shelf and that facility requirements would be similar for the two options (D20937K, p. 12). [Pg.1024]

Identification of radical 3 as a species that is present in the steady-state phase of the reaction does not prove that it is an intermediate—it could be a species that is peripheral to the real reaction mechanism. Proof that a species is an intermediate requires a demonstration that it is kinetically competent to participate in the mechanism. In the case of a metastable radical, the usual procedure is to conduct transient kinetic studies using a rapid mixing apparatus equipped to quench samples by spraying them into liquid isopentane. The frozen aqueous samples (snows) from the timed cold quenches are then packed into EPR tubes and analyzed spectroscopically. Simple mixing of enzyme with SAM and lysine followed by freeze-quenching on the millisecond time scale does not work because the activation by SAM takes about 5 s. However, a preliminary mix of enzyme with SAM and [2- C]lysine, aging of the solution for 5 s within the apparatus. [Pg.18]

Positive mixing which applies to systems that, given time, would spontaneously and completely mix. Examples are provided by two gases or two miscible liquids mixing apparatus is used on such systems to accelerate mixing. [Pg.3897]

The mixing tank or stirred vessel is the most commonly used piece of stirring equipment. (It is also the most commonly used chemical reactor). This is due to its considerable flexibility as regards the flow conditions, which can be realized in it. Mixing tubs and storage tanks are the second most commonly used pieces of mixing apparatus. [Pg.2]

Homogenization of the primary and individual samples, taken in accordance with the sampling plan and intended for the preparation of the composite sample, must be carried out by an appropriate means or mixing apparatus, depending on the nature of the raw materials. [Pg.395]

These mixing apparatuses were built to ensure pulse-free flow to obtain a uniform cross-linker concentration throughout the gel. In addition, the mixing devices were connected directly to the viscosity measuring device, so that the gel is continuously sheared from the time of cross-linker injection. Finally, it is recommended that metal content of gels be analytically verified to ensure that the proper amount of cross-linker has been delivered. We have analyzed for titanium with X-ray fluorescence and atomic adsorption spectroscopy. [Pg.104]
