Mixing achieved in the initial research and development processing must be in turbulent range. If the impeller Reynolds number is <2000, then mixing in the pilot tank was either inadequate or represented some other special case such as moderately viscous fluids. In these situations, another D/T ratio curve must be used. 

M 39] [P 37] Using an azo-type competitive reaction, the selectivities were compared for the P- and V-type micro mixers having straight and oblique fluid injection, respectively [41]. In this way, laminar- and turbulent-flow mixing achieved by vertical interdigital microstructured mixers can be compared. The selectivities of the turbulent V-type mixer are better to some extent as compared with the P-type device however, neither approaches the characteristics of the ideal tubular reactor. The micro devices, however, are better than a conventional jet mixer. 

Air is an important volumetric ingredient of ice cream. The air content is expressed as overrun, which is defined as the percentage increase in the volume of the ice cream mix achieved by whipping air into the mix prior to freezing. Ashton and Valentin compared the performance of an Airmix, Nautamix, Oblicone and Z-biade mixer using equi-sized particles of sand and calcite. The mixture quality achieved approached that of the random mixture quality in all four mixers but this condition was achieved most rapidly in the Airmix followed by the Oblicone, Nauta and Z-blade mixers. When testing the effect of mixer variables on the quality of mixing achieved it was found that the tumbler mixer permance was very dependent on rotational speed. 

Attempts have been made to use compatibiUsers in reclaiming three-component plastics waste consisting of PE, PP and PS. The PET (bottles) were first separated, and the remaining three polymers were successfiilly compatibilised with a mixture of EPDM rubber and styrene-butadiene block copolymer. Provided that a substituted diamine stabiliser was also added, the recycled mix achieved impact strength values comparable with those of virgin polyolefins. 

The application of adsorbents can be classified according to the adsorbents themselves, the chemicals to be cleaned up, the type of spill (i.e. large or small scale) and whether the spill liquid can be pumped to containers for conventional treatment or the type of chemical/water interaction (Robinson, 1979). Chemicals that mix with water can be treated in conventional adsorption systems, or adsorbents can be spread onto the spill and mixing achieved by agitation. For chemicals that float, booms, blankets, fibers, or powders are available. Applying sorbents to chemicals that sink is the most difficult application.
