Mix design for slurry surfacing on airfields

The draft European standard CEN prEN 16333 (2014) (WI approved dated 23/5/2014) specifies a mix design procedure when slurry surfacing is to be used on airfields. Until the development of an EN specifying a mix design method for slurry surfacing and in other areas, the author proposes this design method to be used in any micro-surfacing applications. [Pg.316]

The procedure requires the following tests (a) mix time, (b) consistency test, (c) determination of cohesion of the mix and (d) determination of wearing. [Pg.316]

The mix test is carried out in accordance to the ISSA TB-113 (1990) method. The mix time test predicts how long the slurry can be mixed in the machine before it begins to stiffen and break. The mixing test should also be checked at the highest temperature expected during construction (CEN prEN 16333 2014). [Pg.316]

The consistency test is carried out according to CEN EN 12274-3 (2002) and is used to determine the amount of water to form a stable workable mixture. A brief description is given in Section 6.8.3.1 (consistency test). [Pg.316]
