Mist mat

Impingement demister systems are designed to intercept liquid particles before the gas outlet. They are usually constructed from wire mesh or metal plates and liquid droplets impinge on the internal surfaces of the mist mats or plate labyrinth as the gas weaves through the system. The intercepted droplets coalesce and move downward under gravity into the liquid phase. The plate type devices or vane packs are used where the inlet stream is dirty as they are much less vulnerable to clogging than the mist mat.

Data for the efficiency of a cyclone bank were obtained in an experimental model of a gas scrubber, incorporating also an inlet vane and a mist mat or demisting mesh under the cyclone bank , which consisted of two cyclones operating in parallel. A simple diagram of the scrubber is shown in Figure 13.7.2. 

More recentiy, sulfuric acid mists have been satisfactorily controlled by passing gas streams through equipment containing beds or mats of small-diameter glass or Teflon fibers. Such units are called mist eliminators (see Airpollution control methods). Use of this type of equipment has been a significant factor in making the double absorption process economical and in reducing stack emissions of acid mist to tolerably low levels.

Aspect of the various types of mats after the exposure in saline mist for (a) 100 hours, (b) 500 hours, (c) 800 hours the samples marked with 1 and 2 are made in a RieUo mat in a Fe-Cr-Al alloy without an intentional addition of RE. Sample 3 is made in a Riello mat in a Fe-Cr-Al alloy with an intentional addition of RE samples 4 and 5, respectively, the "longitudinal" and "transversal" orientation of the different producer mats. 

Mycelium overlays the casing and then "mats", becoming flattened and impervious to water. No primordia form. Improper watering and/or too low humidity in the external environment.
