Mindfulness practice

I personally would recommend a mindfulness practice that includes at least twenty to thirty minutes a day, five days a week. It may be helpful to do even more during those times when you are facing particularly severe stress. But mindfulness practice should not become another source of guilt, shame, or self-blame Do what you can, as you can do it, and let your practice take its own course. Read through this chapter and let your intuition be your guide as to which exercises will be most meaningful or helpful for you. [Pg.227]

In a similar way, mindfulness practice suggests that we give up on self-improvement and instead begin a course of self-acceptance. The way out of our unhappiness is not to fix ourselves. We can t root out our flaws any more than Nasrudin can destroy every single one of his dandelions. We might try for years, and the dandelions would still remain. [Pg.228]

During his university years Gaston impressed his professors with his analytic mind, practical skills and extraordinary dexterity in doing experimental work. Because of these qualities of the young student. Prof. Edmond Becquerel chose Gaston Plante as assistant in his laboratory at the Conservatory of Arts and Crafts. [Pg.7]

STRATEGY One way to approach this kind of problem is to take one structure and, in your mind, hold it by one group. Then rotate the other groups until at least one group is in the same place as it is in the other structure. (Until you can do this easily in your mind, practice with models.) By a series of rotations like this you will be able to convert the structure you are manipulating into one that is either identical with or the mirror image of the other. For example, take A, hold it... [Pg.205]

Because of the existence of numerous isomers, hydrocarbon mixtures having a large number of carbon atoms can not be easily analyzed in detail. It is common practice either to group the constituents around key components that have large concentrations and whose properties are representative, or to use the concept of petroleum fractions. It is obvious that the grouping around a component or in a fraction can only be done if their chemical natures are similar. It should be kept in mind that the accuracy will be diminished when estimating certain properties particularly sensitive to molecular structure such as octane number or crystallization point. [Pg.86]

Many additional refinements have been made, primarily to take into account more aspects of the microscopic solvent structure, within the framework of diffiision models of bimolecular chemical reactions that encompass also many-body and dynamic effects, such as, for example, treatments based on kinetic theory [35]. One should keep in mind, however, that in many cases die practical value of these advanced theoretical models for a quantitative analysis or prediction of reaction rate data in solution may be limited. [Pg.845]

Synthetic use of Ethyl Acetoacetate, In view of the great importance of the ester in synthetic work, the following practical points concerning its use should be borne in mind. [Pg.269]

Teachers of chemistry (and of the sciences generally) will have found that many students appear to dissociate their practical work sharply in their minds from their theoretical knowledge. Many... [Pg.591]

The review and interpretation of toxicology studies is a professional matter, requiring experience in both the laboratory conduct of such studies and the practice of appHed toxicology. Although all studies should be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, there are some general considerations to be kept in mind during the review process, described below. [Pg.237]

Since card and ring frame motors are normally mounted inside the machine frame, there is an obvious obstruction in the cooling. With this in mind and to meet the torque requirements, the common practice is to choose the next... [Pg.167]

If such a situation arises with a motor or an alternator, it is possible that it may cause excessive torques. Keeping these parameters in mind, motor manufacturers have recommended eompensation of only 90T of the no-load kVAr of the motor, irrespective of the motor loading. This, for all practical purposes and at all loads, will improve the p.f. of the motor to around 0.9-0.95. which is satisfactory. [Pg.763]

QRA practitioners can use to satisfy some QRA objectives. Also, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has sponsored a project to expand and improve the quality of component failure data for chemical industry use. And many process facilities have considerable equipment operating experience in maintenance files, operating logs, and the minds of operators and maintenance personnel. These data can be collected and combined with industrywide data to help achieve reasonable QRA objectives. However, care must be exercised to select data most representative of your specific system from the wide range available from various sources. Even data from your own plant may have to be modified (sometimes by a factor of 10 or more) to reflect your plant s current operating environment and maintenance practices. [Pg.10]

To keep this book to a convenient size, and bearing in mind that its most likely users will be laboratory-trained, we have omitted manipulative details with which they can be assumed to be familiar, and also detailed theoretical discussion. Both are readily available elsewhere, for example in Vogel s very useful book Practical Organic Chemistry (Longmans, London, 3rd ed., 1956), or Fieser s Experiments in Organic Chemistry (Heath, Boston, 3rd ed, 1957). [Pg.623]

With each passing decade, more and more polluhon sources of earlier decades become obsolete and are replaced by processes and equipment that produce less pollution. At the same time, population and the demand for products and services increase. Students must keep these concepts in mind as they study from this text, knowing that the world in which they will practice their profession will be different from the world today. [Pg.585]

Several steps can be taken to maximize the run time for the reciprocating compressor. Since wear is a function of rubbing speed, the piston speed can be kept to a minimum. Chapter 3 made recommendations for piston speed. Reliability problems due to valves are reputed to account tor 40% of the maintenance cost of the compressor. Valves are the single largest cause for unplanned shutdowns. Basically, valve life can he increased by keeping the speed of the compressor as low as practical. At 360 rpm, the valves are operated six times a second. At 1,200 rpm, ihc valves operate 20 times a second or 1,728,000 times in a day. It is not difficult to understand why the valves are considered critical. To keep the reliability in mind, valve type, material selection and application considerations such as volume ratio, gas corrosiveness, and gas cleanliness need attention by the experts. One final note is that while lubrication is an asset to the rubbing parts, it is not necessarily good for valve reliability. [Pg.475]
