Millimeter

Penetrability is the depth, expressed in tenths of a millimeter, a standard steel needle penetrates into a bitumen sample at 25°C. The needle carries a weight of 100 g and the test is applied for five seconds. The corresponding test method is relatively difficult to carry out and is defined in France by the standard NF T 66-004, and in the USA by the method ASTM D 583. Penetration is related to the viscosity. [Pg.289]

The described approach is suitable for the reconstruction of complicated dielectric profiles of high contrast and demonstrates good stability with respect to the noise in the input data. However, the convergence and the stability of the solution deteriorate if the low-frequency information is lacking. Thus, the method needs to be modified before using in praetiee with real microwave and millimeter wave sourees and antennas, whieh are usually essentially band-limited elements. [Pg.129]

Almost all microwave methods are non-contact [1] and allow simultaneous measurement of the magnitude and the frequency of vibrations. The distance between the inspected surface and microwave sensor can vary from several millimeters to a few meters. However, the accuracy of the measurement of vibration magnitude also depends on a distance between the microwave sensor and the object as well as the shape of the inspected surface. [Pg.654]

In this work, a millimeter wave interferometer operating in the frequency band of 26 to 40 GHz and overcoming these difficulties is presented. [Pg.654]

A direct measurement of surface tension is sometimes possible from the work of cleaving a crystal. Mica, in particular, has such a well-defined cleavage plane that it can be split into large sheets of fractional millimeter thickness. Orowan... [Pg.278]
