Migration test device

In order that the liquor ratio may remain constant, the dyeings and the migration tests should be carried out in conical flasks with a reflux condenser, or a simple device such as is shown in I ig. 16.5 has proved very useful. The classification of many of the direct dyes is given in the Colour Index of the Society of Dyers and Colourists, and it is now usual to give this information in the dyestuff manufacturers catalogues. 

Test device. For preconditioning, six pipe s ments have to be treated with the same water. To ensure good reprodueibility, the six pipe segments were stacked in a column to be treated under the same conditions (Figure 4.16). For migration tests, each pipe segment was treated individually (Figure 4.17). 

Alternatively, if the standing waves are set up vertically using transducers on either side of a small vertical vessel (say a test tube), then any material which migrates and gathers at the nodes will be held static when the vessel is removed in a vertical direction from the ultrasonic field. Essentially the particles are physically being collected by the base of the vessel as it reaches them. This device is known as the Wavecomb [81]. 

With the leachate migration in the compacted clay layer, the clay transmissivity changes constantly. According to the laboratory test data, as well as the relationship between transmissivity and volume moisture content, the variation characteristics of the transmissivity in different layers of compacted clay in device I can be determined. 

Time and environment dependent failure mechanisms (metal migration, corrosion, intermetallic compound formulations caused by dissimilar use) can be accelerated by device operation (i.e., elevated temperature bum-in testing).
