Middle managers activity

A circle is usually launched by a member of management bearing a title like Facilitator or Coordinator, whose job is to train the circle leaders, to promote the circle concept on the shop floor and among middle management (with the help of top management and forepersons) and to help co-ordinate the activities of different circles. [Pg.786]

In selecting measuring devices, a firm should use only activity measures at the lower managerial or unit levels, primarily activity measures (with some results measures) at the middle-upper management levels, and pure results measures for the executive level (Peterson, p. 40). The safety performance measures should be geared toward the employee s responsibilities and objectives. Employees at the supervisory and middle management level are focused on motivating employees to perform. Safety perfor-... [Pg.12]

As we discussed, it is important to note that the supervisor and middle management performance should be different, necessitating some changes in the measurements used at this level. Normally, we want the middle managers to get their supervisors to do something in safety. Thus, we can measure managers to see if they meet with their supervisors and review activities or monitor the quality of the supervisors work [2]. [Pg.166]

Remember the lynchpin While driven from the top and enacted at the bottom, they absolutely must engage middle managers as active and visible champions of the change. I have suggested in a number of the eolumns in this series that first-line supervisors (and the level or two above them) are eritieal lynehpins in the organization. [Pg.22]

Does the safety program involve middle management are they active participants ... [Pg.13]

Middle management must be actively involved in the safety program. Petersen feels that the middle manager has a three-fold role—to ensure subordinate supervisory performance, to ensure the quality of the performance, and to do some things himself that demonstrate active participation in the safety program by all levels of management. [Pg.23]

The major technical problem was the inability to define subsurface geohydrologic conditions with the initial data. Expertise in the area of geohydrology was clearly needed. A lack of specific analytical techniques precluded meaningful environmental and risk assessments. Cleanup efforts were complicated because poltiners are not regulated under RCRA but are regulated under state law. In the middle of the cleanup effort, the site became involved in Superfund activities, and to date this involvement has not been clarified. Project management has become very difficult because of the many players and laws involved. As a result, public confidence has been affected. [Pg.25]

This extension defines a chain of transfers of surplus value that relates the landlord to the worker by the intermediaries of the capitalist and the head labourer. In this sense the capitalist class of early capitalism was indeed a "middle class", many remarks to the contrary notwithstanding. The sense in which this term applies is of course different from the one in which it applies to the petty bourgeoisie, which again differs from the sense in which it applies to tower managers. The petty bourgeoisie is only an intermediate class that does not actively mediate between other classes. [Pg.340]
