The results show that the C5o-Pst star-shaped polymer L-B hlms are hrmly fixed on the surface of the substrate, even after the surface was scanned for many times. The topography, high density, order and preferred orientation of the hlms are dominating factors in friction. The C5o-Pst him could play a signihcant role in microtribological applications. [Pg.199]

It has been shown that surface-modihed C5Q-Pst polymer was synthesized and was transferred onto mica chips by using the vertical dipping method of L-B film techniques. Though the surface was scanned many times, only a small amount of transfer could be found on the surface of the L-B Hlms. L-B films of C5Q-Pst polymer, even with only one layer, showed good microtribological performance. The topography and the order of the hlms are the most important factors influencing the microscale friction and wear. [Pg.200]

As is known, microscale friction and wear is important in microtribology. However, it is not easy to get real friction force on micro/nano scale during the tests. The surface morphology at nanometer scale, the scanning direction of the FFM, etc., have significant effects on friction force measurement. Even nowadays for commercial SPM we are not quite sure if the friction force we get is a real one or not. [Pg.208]
