In most situations where there is no exten sive use of database operation s on parameter sets, the text form is probably more convenient to use. Many spreadsheet programs, including Microsoft Excel, are also capable of reading files. 

Models are often best understood relative to the situation they are designed to describe if their constitutive variables are allowed to fluctuate statistically in a realistic way. Once a variable has been assigned a suitable density of probability distribution and the parameters of this distribution have been chosen, the fluctuations can be conveniently produced by using random deviates from statistical tables. A random deviate is a particular value of a standard random variable. Many elementary books in statistics contain tables of deviates from uniform, normal, exponential,. .. distributions. Many high-level computation-oriented programming languages (e.g., MatLab) and spreadsheets, such as Microsoft Excel, also contain random number generators. The book by Press et al. (1986) contains software that produces random deviates for the most commonly used probability distributions. 

This is an option new to Windows 2000. In order to minimize the risks involved with adding third-party software to your Windows 2000 Professional machine, Microsoft has come up with a technique called driver signing (see Figure 14.11). Installing new hardware drivers onto the system is a situation in which both viruses and badly written software can threaten your system s health. To minimize the risks of this, you can choose to only use drivers which have been signed. The signing process is meant to ensure that you are getting drivers that have been checked with Windows 2000 and that those drivers have not been modified maliciously. 

At this point, we should mention that some redox titration expressions are more complex than those presented here for a basic 1 1 situation. Enterprise Resource Planning systems are relatively new and are associated with the development of IT and Internet applications. The basic idea of ERP systems is that they provide management information systems that reduce the data rich information poor situation often found in companies due to the proliferation of IT systems that cannot speak to one another effectively. One of the most common applications is SAP, although there are many others including those offered by Oracle and Microsoft etc. 

Given Microsoft s aversion to things scientific, it should come as no surprise that Excel s tinv function is not only a right probability, but it is for the two-tailed situation, that is, it returns the critical value corresponding to a p-value half that which it is given... 

All of these considerations are usually arranged in different columns of a table, either in a dedicated software tool for executing HARAs, or in a standard office table calculation program, such as Microsoft EXCEL. For layout reasons, the entries are arranged below each other usually these entries would form the column fields of one line of a KARA table. The factors and ASIL result are illustrative only and need to be reviewed in an actual project. 

The advent of operating environments that are fewer in number than the number of operating systems will improve the situation. I expect that the chemical community will follow the computer industry and standardize on a small number of OEs. I expect that the following OEs will find favor in the community, and be chosen by developers as the platforms on which to build the next generation of software for chemical applications (1) Microsoft Windows for high speed 80286 and 80386 DOS machines (2) Windows cousin, the Presentation Manager, for 80286 and 80386 OS/2 machines (3) Finder and Multi-Finder for the Macintosh (4) X-Windows and toolkits for UNIX machines and (5) DECWindows for DEC/ VAX/VMS.
