Environmental Controls in Production. Environmental permit requirements should be evaluated based on the commercial-scale material balance and new equipment specifications. Testing requirements for environmental evaluation should include acute fish and invertebrate toxicity for raw materials, intermediates, and products biodegradation of raw materials, intermediates, and products microbial growth inhibition of raw materials, intermediates, and products water coefficients (KOW) and water solubility for raw materials, intermediates, and products and waste treatability test results. Particular emphasis should be placed on the evaluation of the compatibility of the new process waste streams with the existing waste-treatment systems. If any process waste streams require off-site disposal into regulated hazardous waste landfills, leaching experiments may also be required. 

In microbial systems, P-enolpyruvate carboxylase is reported as an allosteric enzyme activated by acetyl-CoA and severely inhibited by aspartate and malate (Canovas and Kornberg, 1966 Maeba and Sanwal, 1965).

Preliminary evaluation of bryostatins 1 and 2 against several microbial systems proved to be negative. The objective of antibiotic treatments is to reduce the density of microbial pathogen in infected udder tissues and thereby improve the capacity of the animal s immune system to deal with the infection. The effect of a successful antibiotic treatment is therefore self-cure of mastitis (Hamann and Kromker, 1999). However, some antibiotics (e.g. tetracycline and gentamycine) may also have negative side effects on the animal s immune response to udder infection, as they have been shown to inhibit/reduce phagocytosis of the animal s own defence cells (Nickerson et al 1986).
