Microarray tests

Scientists have developed a DNA microarray test that predicts whether a woman with a certain type of breast cancer will have the cancer recur after the tumor is removed. This helps physicians and... [Pg.141]

Microarray tests make it possible to simultaneously determine expression level of a number (hundreds of hundreds) of genes in a given system and to capture their activity in a given systemic or tissue condition. The test is performed in order to reveal the relationship between gene activity and conditions or diseases of genetic origin, also while the disease is progressing. [Pg.30]

None of these compounds have been tested in a microarray assay... [Pg.231]

Further below, I will refer to a Bayesian causal network approach that does attempt to infer causation from microarray data. Furthermore, as Lander suggests, the microarray data, suitably constrained, may be used to generate causal hypotheses that can then be tested in other experiments and contexts. Thus, there are strategies that may be able to address this difficulty of determining causation. [Pg.334]

One important issue concerning fire prevention is the early detection of overheated wire insulation, a common source of smoldering fires. Therefore model experiments were performed to examine how far early indications of overheated insulation could be recognized by the gradient microarray and its simple sampling arrangement. The tests were carried out in a closed box with KAMINA placed next to a cable overheated by a current overload. The experiments were performed... [Pg.61]

Fig. 3.34 LDA of the microarray signal patterns obtained in practical KAMINA tests to detect gaseous precursors of smoldering fires through overheated cable insulation. Prior to the LDA the measured resistances of the sensor segments were normalized to the median of all sensor segments and the number of variables was reduced by a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to cutback the noise. Clear distinction is achieved between clean air...
