For jet fuels, the elimination of free water using filters and coalescers by purging during storage, and the limit of 5 ppm dissolved water are sufficient to avoid incidents potentially attributable to water contamination formation of micro-crystals of ice at low temperature, increased risk of corrosion, growth of micro-organisms. [Pg.250]

P 60] The dehydration of 1-hexanol to hexane and of ethanol to ethane were conducted at 155 °C. Heating was accomplished by a heating wire inserted in the micro reactor s top plate. This wire was connected to a potentiostat (0-270 V) temperature was monitored by a digital thermometer with the probe close to the reaction channel. A syringe pump was applied for liquid transport [19]. A flow rate of 3 pi min was applied. The alcohols were purged with nitrogen directly prior to reaction to minimize coke formation. [Pg.537]

Vapor phase experiments were performed in a fixed-bed continuous down-flow micro-reactor with a diameter of 12 mm at atmospheric pressure. Prior to reaction, the catalyst sample (0.10 g, except 0.15 g for SZ) was calcined at 500 °C for 3 hours in a 30 cmVmin flow of air. The sample was then purged with 0.50 cmVmin He for 0.5 hr at the reaction temperature. Reactant feed rates were 0.33 cmVmin of 0.99 vol % NOj /He and 0.17 cmVmin of He saturated with toluene by passing through a toluene reservoir kept at 0°C. Reactions were performed at 150,170 and 200 °C and partial pressures of 2.3 torr toluene and 5-15 torr NOj. The toluene space velocity (WHSV) was 0.148 for the SZ and 0.221 for all other catalysts. Toluene was used as the internal standard for the calibration of the mono-nitrotoluene products. [Pg.200]

Several experimenters have noticed that some of the experimental PEMs on the market recently are quite thin, and that if their systems or fuel cells are not purged, they get what is called in the trade membrane blowout. The oxygen in the system air that was not purged out, and the hydrogen combine in the presence of the catalyst on the membrane, and burn micro holes in the cheaper thinner membranes, resulting in a pop or system failure. [Pg.175]
