Unlike the array collector, with a microchannel plate all ions of only one m/z value are detected simultaneously, and instrument resolution does not depend on the number of elements in the micro-channel array or on the separation of one element from another. For a microchannel plate, resolution of m/z values in an ion beam depends on their being separated in time by the analyzer so that their times of arrival at the plate differ. 

Eurther research on convective transport under low Reynolds number, quasicontinuum conditions is needed before the optimal design of such a micro heat exchanger is possible. The cooling heat exchanger is usually thermally linked to a relatively massive substrate. The effects of this linkage need to be explored and accurate methods of predicting the heat-transfer and pressure-drop performance need to be developed. 

A recent victim of the killer micros was Evans and Sutherland s parallel computer development effort, halted ia 1990. Their architecture combiaed a small number of approximately 1-MFLOPS processors iato semi-iadependent functional units. Several of these units could, ia turn, be combiaed to form a processor hierarchy, building up to systems that were expected to cost between 1 and 8 million dollars. With the advent of lO-MFLOPS uniprocessor killer micros, such an architecture became irrelevant and the project was halted. The RISC killer micro could deUver the same level of performance as could the combiaed efforts of 10 of the 1-MFLOPS processors, evea with the unlikely assumptioa that the problem could be perfectiy parallelized across 10 processors. 

When the stress that can be bom at the interface between two glassy polymers increases to the point that a craze can form then the toughness increases considerably as energy is now dissipated in forming and extending the craze structure. The most used model that describes the micro-mechanics of crazing failure was proposed by Brown [8] in a fairly simple and approximate form. This model has since been improved and extended by a number of authors. As the original form of the model is simple and physically intuitive it will be described first and then the improvements will be discussed. 

MD runs for polymers typically exceed the stability Umits of a micro-canonical simulation, so using the fluctuation-dissipation theorem one can define a canonical ensemble and stabilize the runs. For the noise term one can use equally distributed random numbers which have the mean value and the second moment required by Eq. (13). In most cases the equations of motion are then solved using a third- or fifth-order predictor-corrector or Verlet s algorithms. 

Different approaches utilizing multidimensional EC or SEC systems have been reported for the analysis of middle distillates in diesel fuel. The complete system contained up to four different EC columns, a number of column-switching valves and a dielectric constant detector. However, the EC column for the separation of paraffins and naphthenes, which is an essential part of the system, is no longer commercially available.

Upton has recently studied the marine corrosion behaviour of a number of braze alloy-parent metal combinations and has shown that compatibility was a function of the compositions of the filler and parent metals, their micro-structures and chance factors such as overheating during the brazing operation.
