These factors make it necessary to reduce the amount of solvent vapor entering the flame to as low a level as possible and to make any droplets or particulates entering the flame as small and of as uniform a droplet size as possible. Desolvation chambers are designed to optimize these factors so as to maintain a near-constant efficiency of ionization and to flatten out fluctuations in droplet size from the nebulizer. Droplets of less than 10 pm in diameter are preferred. For flow rates of less than about 10 pl/min issuing from micro- or nanobore liquid chromatography columns, a desolvation chamber is unlikely to be needed. [Pg.107]

To accommodate smaller liquid flows of about 10 pl/min, micro-ultrasonic nebulizers have been designed. Although basically similar in operation to standard ultrasonic nebulizers, in these micro varieties, the end of a very-small-diameter capillary, through which is pumped the sample solution, is in contact with the surface of the transducer. This arrangement produces a thin stream of solution that runs down and across the center of the face of the transducer. The stream of sample... [Pg.148]

Eurther research on convective transport under low Reynolds number, quasicontinuum conditions is needed before the optimal design of such a micro heat exchanger is possible. The cooling heat exchanger is usually thermally linked to a relatively massive substrate. The effects of this linkage need to be explored and accurate methods of predicting the heat-transfer and pressure-drop performance need to be developed. [Pg.495]

The inlet flange shall be of the weldneck type with raised face designed in accordance with ASME BPV Code Section VIII. The flange shall be axial entry with a surface finish of 150-250 micro inches. The gasket shall be of the spiral-wound metal type with a seating stress of 10,000 psi. [Pg.310]

First order parameters affecting dispersion stem from meteorological conditions. These, as much as any other consideration, determine how a stack is to be designed for air pollution control purposes. Since the operant transport mechanisms are determined by the micro-meteorological conditions, any attempt to predict ground-level pollutant concentrations is dependent on a reasonable estimate of the convective and dispersive potential of the local air. The following are meteorological conditions which need to be determined ... [Pg.289]

It was invented by lunge in 1890 under the name gasvolumeter (Ref 1). Ten years later, in the USA, it was modified and improved by F.I. duPont and described by Pitman as the duPont Nitrometer (Ref 2). At present, both macro and semi-micro nitrometers are in use, the latter being designed by Elving and Me Elroy (Ref 7)... [Pg.319]
