Mianserin Alcohol

Mianserin Hydrochloride An acute overdose of mianserin is most hazardous in patients due to multiple drug overdose. The main feature of overdose is mild coma without chance of deep coma or convulsions. Mianserin may potentiate the effects of CNS depressants such as alcohol, antipsychotics, and anxiolytics.

Clinically important, potentially hazardous interactions with alcohol, amprenavir, barbiturates, buprenorphine, chlorpheniramine, clarithromycin, CNS depressants, efavirenz, esomeprazole, eucalyptus, fluoroquinolones, imatinib, indinavir, ivermectin, macrolide antibiotics, MAO inhibitors, methadone, mianserin, nalbuphine, narcotics, nelfinavir, nilutamide, phenothiazines, ritonavir, SSRIs... 

Mianserin and maprotiiine can cause drowsiness and impair the abiiity to drive or handie other dangerous machinery, particuiar-ly during the first few days of treatment. This impairment may be increased by aicohoi. Piriindole does not appear to interact with alcohol. 

A double-blind, crossover study in 13 healthy subjects given 10 to 30 mg of mianserin twice daily for 8 days, with and without alcohol 1 g/kg, found that their performance in a number of psychomotor tests (choice reaction, coordination, critical flicker frequency) were impaired both by mianserin alone and by concurrent use with alcohol. The subjects were aware of feeling drowsy, muzzy, and less able to carry out the tests. These results confirm the findings of other studies. ...

The CNS depressant effects of mianserin, and possibly maprotiiine, appear to be additive with those of alcohol.
