A mixture of methyl 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate (1.84g, lOmmol), propargyl bromide (80% wt in toluene, 3.4mL, 31 mmol), K COj (5.53 g, 40mmol), and 18-crown-6 (13.2mg, 0.05mmol) in acetone (50mL) was heated to reflux for 24h. The solid was removed by filtration, and the acetone was removed by rotary evaporation. Water (50mL) was added, and the mixture was extracted with CH Cl. The organic phase was dried over Na SO, and the solvent was removed in vacuo to give the desired product as a white powder (2.63 g, 88%). [Pg.44]

If CDI is employed as imidazolide, methyl 2,4,6-trihydroxybenzoate is obtained in 47% yield. Propionyl-1,2,4-triazole behaves in the same way as the imidazolides, giving similar yields (50%), but the benzotriazolides and benzimidazolides were not as effective. The o-nitrophenyl and p-chlorophenyl esters of propionic acid did not lead to any aromatic products.11185 Similar 5C + 1C condensation reactions are described in references [119] and [120],... [Pg.329]

An additional method of ACEC synthesis was based on hydroxybenzoic acids as the starting materials [32]. The synthesis starts from esterification of the acid with 3-cyclohexenyl-1-methyl alcohol. The following hydroxybenzoic acids were used 2-hydroxybenzoic (salicylic), 2,4-di-hydroxybenzoic ( 3-resorcylic) and 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic (gallic) acid. The phenolic hydroxyls in the cy-clohexenylmethyl esters were transformed in glycidyl ethers in the usual way (reaction with excess ECH followed by dehydrochlorination). Eventually, epoxidation with PAA was carried out (Scheme 51). The epoxide groups content in the ACECs thus prepared was above 85% of the calculated value. [Pg.75]
