Wallach has synthesised i-menthone by condensing 1, 4-methyl-cyclo-hexanone with bromo-isobutyric ester from the condensation product he prepared i-menthene, which was converted into i-menthenone, by means of its nitrosochloride, whence i-menthone resulted by reduction.

The alicyclic ketones have been identified as being important flavor precursors by Flament et al. (15) and more recently by MacLeod and Ames (44), who identified a similar compound (3-methyl-cyclo-pentanone) in heated ground beef. Flament et al. (15) singled out the importance of these compounds, particularly in the presence of alhylpyrazines. Nishimura et al. (41) produced a meaty odor by heating 2-hydroxy-3-methylcyclopent-2-enone with cyclotene and HaS. Two volatile compounds described as having meaty odor were 2-methyl-cyclopentanone and 3-methylcyclopentanone. Thus, cyclotene appears to be a key precursor of "roast beef" flavor.

The spatial and temporal development of the tracer cloud was measured at 168 measurement stations in Europe and both real time and retrospective model inter-comparison projects were carried out (Graziani et al. 1998 Mosca et al. 1998). The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate the models ability to transport and disperse a tracer.

When HI adds to a double bond, the proton acts as an electrophile, giving an intermediate carbocation that then reacts with the nucleophilic iodide ion to give the product. In the reaction of HI with 1-methylcyclohexene, there is only one product, 1-iodo-l-methylcyclohexane no l-iodo-2-methyl-cyclo-hexane is formed. 

In concluding the discussion of rubber it may be well to give without further comment a suggested constitution for caoutchouc itself as a polymerized isoprene. The formula suggested by Harries is i-S-di-methyl cyclo octa di-ene.
