Methodological evolution subjects

DEVS simulation using state quantisation instead of time discretisation as outlined in Chap. 1 seems to be better suited for handling instantaneous state discontinuities. In comparison to the evolution of sophisticated numerical integration methods for DAE systems, the use of quantised state integration and the application of the DEVS methodology to hybrid system models is a rather young approach that still needs some problems to be addressed. However, the use of QSS and DEVS simulation for FDI in hybrid systems may be another subject of further research. 

The evolution of sensory methods, and more specifically the development of rapid sensory proflling techniques, has resulted in a broad variety of available methods. Reinforced thermoplastic matrix pipes may be subjected to different types of loading conditions as well as different environmental conditions. However, they may suffer damage due to unexpected working conditions (low velocity impact, such as stones, tools, etc). This paper describes a methodology based upon fracture mechanics to evaluate possible pipe damages. It reports a set of tests made to characterize materials and pipes. Fracture Mechanics tests were made in samples subjected to low velocity impact. The study of damage evolution was done by using the ESPI (Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry) technique in order to determine the delamination area.
