The application of PFG NMR to chemical reactions in zeolite catalysts is not necessarily confined to the observation of the reactant and product molecules. By monitoring the diffusivity of an inert molecule it is also possible directly to trace any changes in the transport properties of the catalyst during the reaction. As an example of this procedure, in [236] tetrafluoro-methane is used to follow the transport inhibition within ZSM-5 during ethene conversion. In these studies, an H-ZSM-5 zeolite was loaded with 4 CF4 and 12 ethene molecules per unit cell and kept at a temperature of 343 K. The representation of the results in Fig. 22 shows that the mobility of the probe species drops by a factor of 6 during the first 3 hours of reaction and then remains relatively constant. Obviously, ethene conversion leads to the formation of larger compounds, which more effectively reduce the mobility of the probe molecules than is the case with the ethene molecules. [Pg.119]

Tubular blood-contacting polymeric materials were modified by plasma polymerization and evaluated in animals (baboons) with respect to th r c iadty to induce acute and chronic arterial thrombosis. Nine plasma polymers based on tetrafluoro-ethylene, hexafluoroethane, hexafluwoethane/H, and methane, when deposited on silicone rubber, consumed platetets at rates ranging from l.l-5.6x 10 platelets/on day. Since these values are close to the lower detection limit for this test system, tl plasma polymers were considered relatively nonthrombogenk. Thus, artificial blood tube made of polyesters, having the inner side coated with plasma-pcrfymerized tetra-fluoroethylene, is now commercially available. [Pg.76]

Tao et al. prepared fluorinated polyimide (3-86 in Table 3.4) [126], from multi-trifluoromethyl-substituted diamine, which had a dielectric constant as low as 2.49. The dielectric constants decreased gradually with an increase in fluorene loading. The dielectric constant value was not only much lower than non-fluorinated polyimides such as PMDA-ODA (3.16) [127], it was also lower than some of the fluorinated polyimides such as those derived from 3,3, 5,5 -tetrafluoro-4,4 -diaminodiphenylmethane (TFDAM) and dianhydrides (2.73-2.82) [128] and from a,a-fcA(4-amino-3,5-difluorophenyl)phenyl-methane (4FMA) and dianhydrides (2.60-2.83) [129]. Wang et al. [130] prepared fluorinated poly-iinides (3-87 in Table 3.4) by incorporating diisopropyl-substituted fluorene moieties, which led to an improvement in solubility and dielectric properties. The dielectric constant obtained with the... [Pg.124]

An interesting difference in properties is observed between methyl fluoride and methylene difluoride, trifluoromethane, and tetrafluoro-methane. It is found that successive steps in chlorination of methane are accompanied by nearly the same enthalpy change (see Exercise 6-37), to within 4 kJ mole". This constancy for reactions in which C—H is... [Pg.224]
