Metaphen

Nitromersol, U5P. 3-(Hydroxymercuri)-4-nitro-o-cre-.sol inner salt (Metaphen) occurs as a yellow powder that is practically insoluble in water and is sparingly soluble in alcohol and most organic. solvents. The sodium salt probably has the inner salt". structure in which the inner shell electrons of mercury are tKCupied. The bonding to mercury in this salt. should be collinear, so the. structure shown below is somewhat improbable. Nevertheless, this. structure is shown in the USP and the Merck Index. [Pg.228]

Melt lanolin in vacuum flask and heat to 60°-45°C. Use sufficient acetone to completely dissolve metaphen chloride. Add metaphen solution to melted lanolin and mix thoroughly. Use vacuum to remove all acetone. [Pg.124]

Warm gently to 35° 40°C if necessary. Strain into the container while mixing. Gently melt metaphen ointment base and strain into the container while mixing. [Pg.191]

Aromatic amines are solids at room temperature, These hardeners are routinely melted at elevated temperatures and blended with warmed resin. Eutectic mixtures of metaphen-ylene diamine and methylene dianiline exhibit a depressed melting point resulting in an aromatic hardener that remains a liquid over short periods of time. The pot life is considerably longer than that achieved with aliphatic polyamines. Elevated temperature cures are required to develop optimum properties which are maintained at temperatures up to 150°C (300 F). Aromatic amines have improved chemical and thermal resistance when compared to aliphatic poly amines. [Pg.352]
