LD/AC [Named after L-D, ARBED (a company in Luxembourg), and CNRM (a Belgian metallurgical research laboratory)] Also called the OCP process. A version of the L-D steelmaking process in which powdered lime is introduced with the oxygen in order to remove phosphorus from the steel. See also OLP. 

Curium was discovered in 1944 by Glenn Seaborg (1912—1999), Ralph A. James, and Albert Ghiorso (1915—). These researchers, from the University of California at Berkeley, were working at the Metallurgical Research Laboratory (MRL) at the University of Chicago where research on the first atomic bomb was being conducted.

Typical uses determination of acidic and basic impurities in finished products, control of reaction conditions in industrial processes, mineral and metallurgical analysis. Relative precision 0.1-1%.

The National Physical Laboratory includes a Department of Metallurgy and Metallurgical Chemistry. Laboratories are attached to many public Institutions, such as the Davy-Faraday Research Laboratory of Hie Royal Institution, and those of the Lister Institute and the Royal Dublin Society. 

During Wigner s one-year tenure as Research Director, most of the organizational structiure of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory was established in particular, a powerful biological research laboratory under Alexander Hollaen-der, and a metallurgical laboratory, as well as the already-established physics, chemistry, and technical divisions. 

In his pursuit of metallurgical advances using the electric furnace, Morehead had sought the services of Frederick M. Becket, who had organized the Niagara Research Laboratories in 1903.
