Metalloligands

These trinuclear complexes can act as metalloligands to afford a whole series of heterobimetallic M3M Q4 cubane-type complexes and several review articles on the topic have been published in the last decade [31, 32]. 

Klaui s tripodal metalloligand LOMe = (r/5-C5H5)Co P(=0)(OMe)2]3 has been used for the synthesis of an octahedral Ni11 complex (269).7 7 Before crystallization from acetone, the dinu-clear adduct [Ni(//-LOMe)2(//-N03)2Ni(N03)] was isolated. The labile acetone ligand in (269) is easily replaced by various P- and N-donor ligands. 

Abstract Amino acids are the basic building blocks in the chemistry of life. This chapter describes the controllable assembly, structures and properties of lathanide(III)-transition metal-amino acid clusters developed recently by our group. The effects on the assembly of several factors of influence, such as presence of a secondary ligand, lanthanides, crystallization conditions, the ratio of metal ions to amino acids, and transition metal ions have been expounded. The dynamic balance of metalloligands and the substitution of weak coordination bonds account for the occurrence of diverse structures in this series of compounds.

Recently, several groups reported molecular squares prepared by an alternative approach, in which bifunctional metalloligands serve as the linkers thereby placing the metal ions into the walls of the container molecules (114—116). Hupp and coworkers, for example, have designed square-shaped macrocycles based on salen-type components (117).
