O-Rings metal

Unfortimately, it was difficult to seal the cell to prevent hydrogen leaks. In addition, it was difficult to test individual layers of the MEA system because the carbon fabric glued itself to the inorganic MEA and could not be detached without delaminating the MEA. To resolve these issues, we built a new test cell, as shown in Figure 4. As shown, the MEA is now sealed in a metal O ring using ceramic cement. This cell proved to be easily sealed without... [Pg.411]

In this sensor, the second step can be slow, i.e., by choosing a small current, to improve the accmacy in the measurement of At. For a long delay, the seal materials must be insulators because the use of metals would short circuit the cell, thereby generating a parasitic flux into the chamber electrochemically (a covering glass may be employed to improve the device which uses metal o-rings). [Pg.363]

Compatibility and Corrosion. Gas turbine fuels must be compatible with the elastomeric materials and metals used in fuel systems. Elastomers are used for O-rings, seals, and hoses as well as pump parts and tank coatings. Polymers tend to swell and to improve their sealing abiUty when in contact with aromatics, but degree of swell is a function of both elastomer-type and aromatic molecular weight. Rubbers can also be attacked by peroxides that form in fuels that are not properly inhibited (see Elastomers, synthetic Rubber, natural). [Pg.416]

Very High Pressures Use balanced o-ring cartridge seals up to about 500 psi. Above 500 psi use the tandem double seal with the barrier fluid pressurized at / the seal chamber pressure. Remember as pressure goes up the o-rings will extrude and metal parts will distort. Use a torsion balanced seal. [Pg.221]

The filter structure consists of a stack of plates attached to a hollow shaft which are mounted inside a pressure vessel with each plate covered with a suitable filter medium. The slurry is fed under pressure into the vessel and the cake, which is retained by the filter medium, forms on the top of each plate whilst the filtrate passes through the hollow shaft further to the process. Filter sizes may vary but generally the maximum is 60 m area and designed for a 6 bar operating pressure. Each circular plate in the stack is constructed with radial ribs that are welded to the bottom and support a horizontal coarse mesh screen which is covered with a finer woven metal screen or filter cloth to retain the cake. The bottom of the plate slopes towards the hollow central shaft which lets the filtrate flow freely through circumferential holes and further down the shaft to the filtrate outlet. The clearance between the plates is maintained by special spacers with "o" rings to positively seal between the slurry that surrounds the plates and the shaft that collects the filtrate. The height of the spacers determine the clearance for cake build-up and may be replaced to meet various process conditions. [Pg.204]

Hermetically sealed electrical devices must be verified by a testing laboratory to meet mechanical abuse and to withstand aging and exposure to expected chemicals. Devices potted with common silicones and similar materials by an end user or even a manufacturer, without testing, and devices merely provided with O-rings seldom meet acceptable criteria. Normally, hermetically sealed devices must be sealed through metal-to-metal or glass-to-metal fusion. Many electrical relays, switches, and sensors are available as hermetically sealed devices for common oil and gas producing facility applications. Hermetically sealed devices are often desirable to protect electrical contacts from exposure to salt air and other contaminants. [Pg.522]

It is inappropriate in this survey to attempt to summarise in a short space the results of all the above treatments, but virtually all the calculations indicate that in M(Cp)2 species the 7r(ej) metal-ligand interaction is dominant in the metal to ring bonding. However, debate has largely been concentrated on two points, in the first place the extent of the validity (or otherwise) of Koopmans theorem, and, further, the question of the correct energetic ordering (5 < o < n or o < 5 < n) of the mainly metal tf-type orbitals. [Pg.134]

In addition, mention may be made of more recent electrostatic calculations due to Voitlander and his coworkers 110,177). Qualitatively the results are very similar to those of Robertson and McConnell 30), although the latter contain erroneous numerical values (177), but the choice of R as the metal to ring centroid distance, rather than the metal to carbon distance, leads to much better agreement with experiment. Thus, for Fe(Cp)2, the latter choice predicts 6 < n < o, but the former yields 5 o < ir, with a total splitting of some 18000 cm-1, in quite good agreement with experiment. [Pg.154]

Diazomethane is also decomposed by N O)40 -43 and Pd(0) complexes43 . Electron-poor alkenes such as methyl acrylate are cyclopropanated efficiently with Ni(0) catalysts, whereas with Pd(0) yields were much lower (Scheme 1)43). Cyclopropanes derived from styrene, cyclohexene or 1-hexene were formed only in trace yields. In the uncatalyzed reaction between diazomethane and methyl acrylate, methyl 2-pyrazoline-3-carboxylate and methyl crotonate are formed competitively, but the yield of the latter can be largely reduced by adding an appropriate amount of catalyst. It has been verified that cyclopropane formation does not result from metal-catalyzed ring contraction of the 2-pyrazoline, Instead, a nickel(0)-carbene complex is assumed to be involved in the direct cyclopropanation of the olefin. The preference of such an intermediate for an electron-poor alkene is in agreement with the view that nickel carbenoids are nucleophilic 44). [Pg.85]
