Metal ions initiated

In an ionizing solvent, the metal ion initially goes into solution but may then undergo a secondary reaction, combining with other ions present in the environment to form an insoluble molecular species such as rust or aluminum oxide. In high-temperature oxidation, the metal ion becomes part of the lattice of the oxide formed. [Pg.890]

More recently certain transitional metal ions have been used for initiation of vinyl polymerisation. It has been explained by Santappa et al. and Nayak et al. that the termination in case of the metal ion initiation of polymerisation to be linear, may be shown as below ... [Pg.32]

With purified hydrocarbons where such trace impurities have been scrupulously removed, a long induction time precedes metal-catalyzed autoxidation. The mechanism of formation of initial R02H in the absence of a radical chain is not known in any detail, but metal ions do not seem to be involved. The most important point to note in this context is that various types of metal-dioxygen complexes have been isolated and fully characterized. However, such complexes do not seem to play any role in metal ion initiated autoxidation reactions. [Pg.178]

Nmax would be the theoretical density of the "perfect" metal (i.e., without vacancies). Then we could define the time to failure, tf, such that nj (0, tf) = 0. In other words, tf would be the time for all the metal ions initially at x = 0 to migrate to vacancies somewhere to the right. Since the number of vacancies available per cm would be proportional to L, we would expect that tf would be inversely proportional to L, as was experimentally observed by Blech (10). If we imagine that the current density je is produced by a pulsed dc technique, so that joule heating is slight, then dissolution of silicon at the interface could be prevented. Then u(L,t) = 0 would be an appropriate boundary condition. [Pg.23]
