Metal disulfide

Metal disulfides (MS2) and metal dichalcogenides (MS4) (metal M = Cd, Mo, Zr, Ti, Nb, Ta, or Sn) are lamellar colloids with strong M—S bonds within the layers and weak van der Waals interactions between the layers. Each metal atom in these lamellae is surrounded by six sulfur anions with an approximate octahedral coordination geometry. Each sulfur anion is, in turn, coordinated to three metal atoms with a trigonal pyramidal geometry [50], Certain cationic species or polymers are adsorbed onto these surfaces via intercalation or exfoliation [51,52],... [Pg.519]

Electrochemical insertion of Li has been intensively studied for use in rechargeable high energy density batteries principally on transition metal disulfides (see Intercalation Chemistry). However, the process is also important in the common Mn02 dry cell where H+ intercalation occurs, as well as in so-called nickel oxide batteries. Manthiram and Kim have reviewed insertion materials for lithiated batteries and the current status of lithiated batteries is discussed by Takamura. ... [Pg.3439]

Difficulties for obtaining exact molecular weights also occur when taking the metal free products of TCB and some metal disulfides After GPC diagrams the molar masses correspond to 10 (Table 11). But from membrane osmometry, values near 2 10 were obtained. It was assumed that stiff Pc-structure will lead to a large effective hydrodynamic value which may explain the high GPC data. [Pg.99]

A considerable number of molecules have been intercalated in group IVA and VA transition-metal disulfides and diselenidesh No stable compounds have been isolated with the ditellurides. Only electron-donor base-type molecules form intercalation compounds, which is a major difference from graphite. [Pg.461]

The sulfide minerals of particular importance here are the pyrite group (Table 7.8), which are essentially metal disulfides occurring in widespread locations and different crystalline forms pyrite itself is found in large deposits in metamorphic rocks. [Pg.201]

Another important family of inorganic hosts include lamellar metal-phosphorus sulfides MPS3 (or better M2P2S6) with M = Mn, Fe, Ni, Zn, Cd. These can incorporate metallocenes or metallocenium cations. Thus cobaltocene and bis(benzene)-chromium have been incorporated into MnPSs [330-334], FePSs and NiPSs [335], ZnPSs [336], and CdPSs [313, 317, 337-341]. The most intensively investigated subject, by far, is the intercalation of cobaltocene into various metal-phosphorus sulfides [330, 338, 339, 342-346]. Unlike metal disulfides, the metal-phosphorus sulfides (e.g. CdPSa) can also incorporate ferrocene [347]. [Pg.69]

Figure 5 illustrates schematically the exfoliation-adsorption method. Layered host sheets are delaminated into single-sheet particles and then dispersed as a colloidal suspension. In the 1980s, the layered metal disulfides M0S2 and WS2 were observed to form such single-sheet colloidal suspensions when their lithiated forms were rapidly hydrolyzed [87-89]. More recently, a layered sheet surface-... [Pg.529]
