Merchants Literature

He was the thirteenth child of a Stockholm merchant. After graduating from the University of Upsala in 1863, he studied for a time in C.-A. Wurtz s laboratory in Paris, and in 1874 he became a professor at Upsala. True lover of Nature that he was, he could never confine his activities closely to one branch of science, but was interested alike in chemistry, geology, botany, and hydrography. He wrote his scientific papers in a lucid, pleasing style, and also produced literature of esthetic value (14). 

Several hybrid simulations on crystal growth can be found in recent literature. Examples include dendritic solidification by coupling finite-different discretization of a phase field model to a MC simulation (Plapp and Karma, 2000), coupling a finite difference for the melt with a cellular automata for the solidification (Grujicic et al., 2001), a DSMC model for the fluid phase with a Metropolis-based MC for the surface to address cluster deposition onto substrates (Hongo et al., 2002 Mizuseki et al., 2002), a step model for the surface processes coupled with a CFD simulation of flow (Kwon and Derby, 2001) (two continuum but different feature scale models), an adaptive FEM CVD model coupled with a feature scale model (Merchant et al., 2000), and one-way coupled growth models in plasma systems (Hoekstra et al., 1997). Some specific applications are discussed in more detail below. 

Today, less than 100 years after the first discovery of this reaction, the chemical literature contains tens of thousands of references to this reaction, and the industrial production of Grignard reagents for captive use or merchant sale is estimated to exceed 50,000 tons annually [8]. The scope and potential for the Grignard reaction continues to grow and new discoveries and improvements in method are regularly reported. The balance of this book is devoted to detailed reports on the preparation, analysis, structure, and reacti ity of Grignard reagents and a selection of topics and applications of current interest. 

The first successful therapy of a patient with fibrillation occurred in 1914. Wenckebach (16) reported that a Dutch merchant in Java, who was taking quinine for malaria, stated that he could also control his attacks (paroxysms) of auricular fibrillation with this alkaloid. In 1918 Frey (17) found that the dextro-isomer, quinidine, was superior to quinine, and it has remained the therapeutic agent of choice to the present time. Since that date, a rather massive literature on investigations of quinidine s action on the heart has accumulated. Only a small portion of this literature can be cited here although it is to be regretted that many valuable contributions will be slighted. 

A careful study of literature reveals that a lot of research on metal cutting mechanics has been carried out since last one and half century. Although a number of models were proposed for the estimation of cutting forces, most of the textbooks give more emphasis to Merchant s analysis based on the single-shear plane model. 

In order to make a natural gas merchantable and also to make a suitable feedstock for a liquefaction unit, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and water vapor must be removed. The acid gases may be removed by treating with amine and hot carbonate solutions and then dried by contact with solid desiccants. These processes are well-described in the literature and will not be considered further...
