Continuous-zone-melting apparatus has been described by Pfann (op. cit., p. 171). This technique offers the advantage of a close approach to the ultimate distribution, which is usually impractical for batch operation.

Occasionally the free fall of a corrosive liquid is also sufficient to remove protective layers and promote the corrosion process, as in a melting apparatus for dodecanedioic acid. 

The melting point was determined using digital melting apparatus model Bamstead, UK. The moisture content was determined by drying of FR in the conventional oven at 105°C for 20 h. It is insoluble in water. The moisture content was 0.33% with melting point of 182°C. The physical properties of Irgafos 168 are tabulated in Table 1.

This type of melting converter was later used as a basis for developing a method of vitrification of medium- and HLRAW. The main features of the proposed method combine all three stages of saturated salty solution reprocessing evaporation (concentration), calcination, and vitrification, in one continuous process in a single melting apparatus.
