Mechanism latching

The key idea is to build a MEMS-based mechanical latch as the interconnection gadget. The MEMS-based technology will center on the concept of laterally compliant contacts for chip-to-chip interconnection. Figure 8.2 shows a schematic of the laterally compliant contact with a clamp extending from its free end. For the purpose of this discussion, for now we would assume that the latch is on the bottom chip. The corresponding interconnect on the top chip is built as a cylindrical stub and can be latched by the clamp. The cantilever-clamp offers an attractive solution to tradeoff between compliance and contact forces. Sufficient compliance... [Pg.169]

The tongue actuator is inserted in the switch as normal, when the guard to which it is attached is closed, positively operating a set of normally open and normally closed contacts that are wired into the machinery control circuit. The tongue is automatically locked in place by a mechanical latch so that the guard cannot be opened. The tongue can only be unlatched by energising a... [Pg.210]

It consists of a spring-loaded cut-off valve which is held open in the open position under normal conditions. Should the pressure deviate sufficiently, the diaphragm will move and disengage the trigger mechanism, releasing the latch on the valve, which will close under the force of the spring. [Pg.274]

Acetal This crystalline plastic is strong, stiff, and has exceptional resistance to abrasion, heat, chemicals, creep and fatigue. With a low coefficient of surface friction, it is especially useful for mechanical products such as gears, pawls, latches, cams, cranks, plumbing parts, etc. It is chrome platable. [Pg.426]

The difference between basicity and nucleophilicity is a difference of function. In other words, the hydroxide ion can function in two ways as a base (which means it is pulling off a proton and then running away with that proton) or as a nucleophile (latching onto a compound). In some cases, the hydroxide ion might function mostly as a base while in other situations, the hydroxide ion might function mostly as a nucleophile. To understand mechanisms weU, it is important to be able to distinguish between the two roles. Let s see an example. [Pg.177]

A switch-clamp-latch mechanism is critical for the quiescent state of c-ABL normally. The switch refers to a flip that occurs in an activation loop from the C-lobe that goes between opened and closed conformations and represent active and inactive states of the enz5mie, respectively (Fig. 2). This clamp or loop limits the access of ATP and other substrates to the active binding site of the ABLl protein. A latch stabilizes... [Pg.130]

Tte piston is then reinserted and tcM into place by twisting the latch-4 mechanism. The valve is then peri the lubricator loosened enough permit the Injector to slide through tr nlve, and then retightened. The tjtttor is now ready for injection. [Pg.194]

These control rods thus control the overall reactor power level and provide the principal means of quickly and safely shutting down the reactor. The rods are vertically moved by hydraulically actuated, locking pislou Lype drive mechanisms. The drive mechanisms perform both a positioning and latching function, and a scram function with the latter overriding any other signal (scram signifies prompt shutdown). [Pg.1104]

Metal-organic nanocomposite materials are interesting from the point of view of the bottom-up approach to building future electronic devices. The ability of the organic parts of the composite materials to identify and latch on to other organic molecules is the basis for the possible self assembly of nanoscale devices, while the metallic components provide mechanical robustness and improve the electrical conductance. [Pg.307]

Because of these problems, different synthesis systems support different Verilog HDL subsets for synthesis. Since there is no single object in Verilog HDL that means a latch or a flip-flop, each synthesis system may provide different mechanisms to model a flip-flop or a latch. Each synthesis system therefore defines its own subset of Verilog HDL including its own modeling style. [Pg.235]

The upper surface of the baseplate s center is a recessed socket with a latching collar to accept and retain the round base of the barrel, which is free to pivot in all directions. When in use, the barrel may be adjusted vertically from 40° to 85°.Transverse or horizontal movement is 5" total, or 2.5" left or right of center, as measured at the transverse mechanism. The underside of the baseplate is fitted with four triangular feet that dig firmly into the ground to stabilize the mortar under fire. The front edge carries an additional row of four smaller feet that aid in stability. The four main feet,as well as the central socket area, are tied together and reinforced with several gussets and braces. [Pg.114]
