Mechanical more than once

The sum of the individual steps in the mechanism must give the overall balanced chemical equation. Sometimes a step may occur more than once in the mechanism. [Pg.1082]

There is no shortage of AEDs (Fig. 16.7) but it is not appropriate to consider them in detail in this text other than to see how their mechanisms of action comply with and illustrate those proposed above (Fig. 16.6) for the control of epileptic seizures (see Meldrum 1996 Upton 1994). The decision on which drug to use depends not only on their proven efficacy in a particular type of epilepsy (some drugs are inactive in certain forms) but also what side-effects they have—many are sedative — how they interact with other drugs and how often they need to be taken. PKSs are characterized by their ability to catalyze the formation of polyketide chains from the sequential condensation of acetate units from malonate thioesters. STS forms resveratrol, a plant defense compound of much interest with regard to human health. The replication process requires that each double-helical molecule of DNA produce two identical molecules of DNA. This means that wherever a G-C or A-T base pair occurs in the parental molecule, the identical base pair must occur in the progeny molecules. However, many factors interfere with accurate replication of DNA. If an A should pair with C or G with T as a result of tautomeriza-tion (Chapter 23), a point mutation (a change in one base pair) will result. Occasionally, a segment of DNA will be replicated more than once (duplication) or a segment may fail to be replicated (deletion). Anti-Repeat Many machines operate one cycle at a time. An operator inserts a part into the machine and then activates the machine, which operates on that part and stops. Then the operator removes the completed part. The operator gets used to the rhythm of the machine. If, on occasion, the machine cycles more than once, the operator may have reached into the point-of-operation at the end of the first cycle and injury can occur.
