Different procedures have been used on cruises by various organizations, out of expertise and out of ignorance those data are not useful if procedures are not clearly defined 

Different objectives and time available (i.e., recovery rate) on different legs may warrant different procedures 

Different materials cored and coring techniques applied may warrant different procedures
