Infrared matrix isolation studies

During a matrix-isolation infrared study of the Fg-ClaO and CIF-Oj systems, a new species was observed by Andrews et al. (5) at 733.8 cm which was tentatively assigned to the ClFgO radical. However, more data are needed for the positive identification of this species. [Pg.386]

Vanadium vapor has been used to prepare dibenzenevanadium (59), and it is expected that alkylbenzenes would also react smoothly with the vapor. A matrix isolation infrared study in which sputtered niobium atoms were reacted with benzene in an argon matrix at 30 K has given evidence for the formation of dibenzeneniobium (36). [Pg.73]

In view of the matrix-isolation infrared studies, the theoretical calculations, and those studies of aluminum beam-water reactions, it is of considerable interest to probe the electronic structure of aluminum metal atom hydration reaction intermediates and products Isolated in rare-gas matrices. Such a study will form a useful adjunct to the infrared research. A mapping of the electronic structure of these species will provide a data set to which further theoretical calculations may compare. A more focused elucidation of the nature of the gas-phase aluminum hydration reaction s chemiluminescent continuum emitter may be provided... [Pg.348]

The vapor phase species produced by heating solid Os02F3 in vacuo have been isolated in low-temperature matrices and studied by matrix-isolation infrared spectroscopy and by mass spectrometry [361], Both studies indicate a complex mode of decomposition, and in addition to the identification of OsOF4 (C4v) and Os03F2 ( >3/i), the infrared spectra show two additional features assigned to the Os02F3 molecule with D3/, point symmetry. [Pg.163]

Since lowering of temperature will narrow the absorption bands, it will produce better resolution, which will allow one to identify single compounds and isomers. This leads to the technique of matrix isolation infrared spectrometry (MI/IR) which was used extensively to study the IR properties of molecules" ". In this technique the molecules... [Pg.314]
