Mass spectrometry analyzers magnetic/electric sector

Currently, at least four types of mass analyzer are used in mass spectrometry, namely ToF, magnetic/electric sector, quadrupole ion trap (see Figure 18.6), and FT-ICR. The ToF and magnetic/electric sector mass analyzers are most commonly used in mass spectrometry imaging, while FT-ICR analyzers have been applied only rarely to mass spectrometry imaging [117]. [Pg.590]

A collection of different tandem instrumental arrangements are now available in which the ionic products [usually formed by collisionally-activated dissociation (CAD)] from a mass-selected ion are separated and identified by one or more further analyzers. Such techniques are often known collectively as mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (MS/MS). The whole combination can involve two or more analyzers from the list magnetic sector, electric sector, and quadrupole mass filter. There is now a large variety of such instruments and their relative merits have been discussed on several occasions (5, 6, 37). [Pg.117]
