Manufacturing magnetic field sensors

Magnetic-field sensors are widely used in automotive applications because of their robust design, their non-contacting and thus wear-free operation and their low manufacturing costs, in particular for solid-state sensors, which can be fabricated using batch processes. Their main fields of application in automobiles are speed and position sensing. In total, about one third of today s automotive sensors are based on the magnetic principle [1],... [Pg.172]

The modern era for sensors began in the late 1970s and early 1980s new materials, reproducible manufacturing methods, and microcomputing devices led to the development of reliable sensors which are being used in most industries today. These sensors are primarily physical sensors, sensors which measure time, temperature, electric and magnetic fields, acceleration, and other physical parameters. [Pg.549]

The piezo-electric film used in this device as a microphone. The brand name is called Kynar Piezo Film, and is manufactured by the Penn wait Corp. We find that it is a useful, inexpensive material which, can act as a speaker or a microphone, as well as a stress and impact sensor. Small pieces give a large electrical signals into high impedance inputs (order of volts) in response to "fingertip stresses. We expect it to work in the 1.5 Tesla field of the magnet. [Pg.94]
