Model Manning

Studies on the reactions of small model radicals with monomers provide indirect support but do not prove the bootstrap effect.111 Krstina et ahL i showed that the reactivities of MMA and MAN model radicals towards MMA, S and VAc were independent of solvent. However, small but significant solvent effects on reactivity ratios are reported for MMA/VAc111 and MMA S 7 copolymerizations. For the model systems, where there is no polymer coil to solvate, there should be no bootstrap effect and reactivities are determined by the global monomer ratio [Ma0]/[Mb0].1j1... [Pg.431]

B , while for an n-type semiconductor the reverse is true. An analog to the SCR in the semiconductor is an extended layer of ions in the bulk of the electrolyte, which is present especially in the case of electrolytes of low concentration (typically below 0.1 rnolh1). This diffuse double layer is described by the Gouy-Chap-man model. The Stern model, a combination of the Helmholtz and the Gouy-Chapman models, was developed in order to find a realistic description of the electrolytic interface layer. [Pg.40]

The potential dependence of C is the basic improvement of the model, in comparison with the Helmholtz model, which predicts potential-independent capacity. However, a comparison of experimental data and calculated values on the basis of Eq. (4.10) shows that the function C -flifi) behaves according to the Gouy-Chap-man model in very dilute solutions and at potentials near the minimum (Fig. 4.8). In concentrated solutions, on the other hand, and at potentials further away from the minimum, the theory is in disagreement with experimental results. Once again, a new theory is called for. [Pg.47]

In Manning model, the slope off versus the Coulomb strength or the linear charge density parameter lB lB/l is discontinuous at 1 [31,48], This is a consequence of the fact, that for all less than or equal to unity, / is linear function of 1/s and saturates at unity [31, 35, 48]. The present model indicates a sigmoidal variation off with 1/e and saturates as /H > 0 [48],... [Pg.155]

In the Manning model, if > 1, the DNA is thermodynamically unstable and the counterions will condense on it until reaches the value of unity. When = 1, l=b theoretically this situation corresponds to an extended DNA backone-and b corresponds almost to the Landau length. In the temperature range 20-80°C, the Landau length does not vary... [Pg.411]

The difference AN between the two flat parts corresponds to the increase in number of free ions in the DNA solution after the helix - coil transition. If the role of the coions is negligible (as predicted by the Manning model), the increase AN corresponds to an ejection of Na counterions from the negative phosphate sites of DNA. [Pg.416]
