Maleic acid Nitro-phenol

The transfer of f. to - furfuryl alcohol and ->furan are the two most important reactions. -+Methyl-fiiran is obtained by hydrogenation and careful nitration or halogenation yields the nitro or halogen derivatives. With phenol, - -furfuryl alcohol and urea, polymers are obtained. Catalytic vapor-phase oxidation yields maleic acid. [Pg.119]

According to this model, the first stage in the treatment of nitrophenols aqueous wastes was the release of the nitro group from the aromatic ring. As a consequence, phenols or quinones were formed. These organic compounds were oxidized first to carboxylic acids (maleic and oxalic) and later to carbon dioxide. Also the cathodic reaction steps were considered in the global process when the electrochemical cell was undivided at the cathode, the reduction of the nitro to the amine group and the transformation of nitrate into ammonia were observed. In alkaline media, aminophe-nols were polymerised and transformed into a dark brown solid. [Pg.212]

ANILINE, A -PHENYL (122-39-4) Comhustible solid. Dust forms explosive mixture with air. Violent reaction when added to hexachloromelamine, trichloromelamine. Often shipped in liquid form (flash point, liquid 307°F/153°C oc). An organic base. Incompatible with strong acids (forms salts), aldehydes, organic anhydrides, isocyanates, oxidizers. Reacts with nitrogen oxides to form Al-nitrosodiphenylamine and mono- and poly-nitro products. Incompatible with organic anhydrides, acrylates, alcohols, aldehydes, alkylene oxides, substituted allyls, cellulose nitrate, cresols, caprolactam solution, epichlorohydrin, ethylene dichloride, isocyanates, ketones, glycols, nitrates, phenols, vinyl acetate. Exothermic decomposition with maleic anhydride. Increases the explosive sensitivity of nitromethane. Attacks light metals in the presence of moisture. [Pg.117]
