Magnesium coatings

An important factor of film quality concerns its adhesion to the substrate, namely to the magnesium chip. Figure 4.12 shows images of different coated chips after a standard adhesion test. The upper images show the magnesium-coated chips after the tape was peeled off, while the lower images show the tapes. [Pg.93]

Another specialty area is coil coating, which involves coating metal coils by continuous operation. Modern roller systems afford speeds of up to 200 m/min. Most coils are made of cold-rolled and surface treated steel, aluminum, or alloys of the latter with manganese or magnesium. Coating systems are based on alkyd or acrylic resins, oil-free polyester, silicone-modified polyester or acrylic resin, poly(vinylidene fluoride), or poly(vinyl fluoride). Water-reducible systems, mainly based on acrylic resins, have been developed for aluminum as well as for steel coils [21-24], Drying is carried out by continuous operation in gas- or oil-heated multichamber ovens. [Pg.159]

The extraction of titanium is still relatively costly first the dioxide Ti02 is converted to the tetrachloride TiCl4 by heating with carbon in a stream of chlorine the tetrachloride is a volatile liquid which can be rendered pure by fractional distillation. The next stage is costly the reduction of the tetrachloride to the metal, with magnesium. must be carried out in a molybdenum-coated iron crucible in an atmospheric of argon at about 1100 K ... [Pg.370]

Phosphorus pentoxide. This is an extremely efficient reagent and is rapid in its reaction. Phosphoric oxide is difficult to handle, channels badly, is expensive, and tends to form a syrupy coating on its surface after a little use. A preliminary drying with anhydrous magnesium... [Pg.142]

Alkynyl anions are more stable = 22) than the more saturated alkyl or alkenyl anions (p/Tj = 40-45). They may be obtained directly from terminal acetylenes by treatment with strong base, e.g. sodium amide (pA, of NH 35). Frequently magnesium acetylides are made in proton-metal exchange reactions with more reactive Grignard reagents. Copper and mercury acetylides are formed directly from the corresponding metal acetates and acetylenes under neutral conditions (G.E. Coates, 1977 R.P. Houghton, 1979). [Pg.5]

Another sol—gel abrasive, produced by seeding with a-ferric oxide or its precursors, has been patented (30). A magnesium-modified version of this abrasive, also called Cubitron, is being produced as a replacement for the earlier type. Yttria [1314-36-91-vnc>A V eA sol—gel abrasives have also been patented (31), as well as rare earth oxide modified materials (32). These abrasives are all produced by 3M Corporation they have performed very well ia various applications such as ia coated abrasives for grinding stainless steel and exotic alloys. [Pg.12]

Curves 1, 2, and 3 show the spectral radiance factor for equivalent coatings of separate toluenesulfonamide—melamine—formaldehyde Day-Glo pigments containing 0.5% of a dye, either Alberta Yellow, Rhodamine F5G, or Rhodamine B Extra. Curve 4 is for a bright nonfluorescent red-orange printing ink. The illuminant was Source C. A magnesium oxide-coated block was used as a comparison white. Fig. 2.
