Silver nitrate reaction with magnesium chloride

Tin tetra-a-thienyl, (041138)4811.—suspension of stannic chloride in ether is slowly added to the Grignard solution from a-iodo-thiophene and magnesium in dry ether, and the reaction is completed by boiling for one hour on the water-bath. On working up in the usual manner, tin tetra-2-thienyl is obtained in needles or prisms, M.pt. 156° C. (corr.), fairly soluble in benzene, hot ether, and hot alcohol, sparingly soluble in cold ether, and insoluble in cold alcohol. The alcoholic solution when boiled with silver nitrate remains unchanged.
