Magnesium chloride, hydrated

Basic) Magnesium chloride Magnesium chloride hydrate MgCl2-5Mg(OH)2-8H20 Saline concentrates in porous deposits, resulting in acid corrosion pits. [Pg.267]

Throughout its whole course, the curve EMK represents solutions in which the ratio of MgCl. KCl is greater than in the double salt. As this is a point of some importance, it will be well, perhaps, to make it clearer by giving one of the isothermal curves, e.g. the curve for 10 , which is represented diagrammatically in Fig. 131. E and F here represent solutions saturated for carnallite plus magnesium chloride hydrate, and for carnallite plus potassium chloride. As is evident, the point F lies above the line representing equimolecular proportions of the salts (OD). [Pg.252]

Miscellaneous. Both whiting and hydrated lime are used as diluents and carriers of pesticides, such as lime—sulfur sprays, Bordeaux, calcium arsenate, etc. The most widely used bleach and sterilizer, high test calcium hypochlorite, is made by interacting lime and chlorine (see Bleaching AGENTS). Calcium and magnesium salts, such as dicalcium phosphate, magnesium chloride, lithium salts, etc, are made directly from calcific and dolomitic lime and limestone. [Pg.178]

Magnesium chloride also forms hydrates containing 8 and 12 molecules of water of hydration. The solubiUty for MgCl2 ia water is shown in Figure 2 (31) from which it can be seen that the hexahydrate is the only stable hydrate in the range of temperatures from 0 to 100°C. [Pg.343]

Other Processes. Dead Sea Periclase (DSP, Mishor Rotem, Israel) converts magnesium chloride into MgO by spray-roasting, then hydrates the MgO to Mg(OH)2. The Mg(OH)2 is washed and dmm filtered. DSP purchases the brine from Dead Sea Works, which collects and stores enriched brine from the southern margins of the Dead Sea (77). [Pg.348]

Many ionic compounds contain what used to be referred to as water of crystallization . For example, magnesium chloride can exist as a fully hydrated salt which was formerly written MgCla.bHjO, but is more appropriately written Mg(OH2)eCl2, since the water molecules occupy coordination sites around the magnesium ions. This is typical. In most compounds that contain water of crystallization, the water molecules are bound to the cation in an aquo complex in the manner originally proposed by Alfred Werner (1866-1919) in 1893 (Kauffman, 1981). Such an arrangement has been confirmed in numerous cases by X-ray diffraction techniques. [Pg.47]

The three major types of oxysalt bonded AB cement are the zinc oxychloride, the magnesium chloride and the magnesium oxysulphate cements. The bases employed, therefore, are either zinc oxide or magnesium oxide, both of which readily undergo hydration in aqueous solution, behaving as M(OH)2 species and acting as a source of hydroxyl ions. They are thus both clearly bases in the Bronsted-Lowry sense. [Pg.284]

Treatment of nitriles with gaseous hydrogen sulfide in the presence of anion exchange resin (Dowex 1X8, SH from) at room temperature affords the corresponding primary thioamides.27 Treatment of nitriles with 70% sodium hydrosulfide hydrate and magnesium chloride hexahydrate in DMF or methanol affords primary thioamides in high yields.28 Primary thioamides have been... [Pg.149]

A One dm3 of a 1 mol dm 3 solution of magnesium chloride has a mass of 10 3 x 1066 kg= 1066 g. It contains 24.3 + 70.9 = 95.2 g of the salt, leaving 1066 — 95.2 = 970.8 g of water. This amount of water contains 970.8/18.015 = 53.89 moles. There are three moles of ions in the solution, so each ion has a maximum of 53,89/3= 18.0 water molecules that could be in its hydration sphere. It would be expected that the doubly charged Mg2 1 ion would affect more water molecules than the singly charged chloride ions. [Pg.16]

Figure 6.55 Inhibition of methane + nitrogen hydrates with sodium chloride and magnesium chloride. Figure 6.55 Inhibition of methane + nitrogen hydrates with sodium chloride and magnesium chloride.
A buffer of 25 mM sodium-acetate (2.051 g/1) with 0.4 M magnesium-chloride 6-hydrate (81.32 g/1) is prepared, and adjusted with acetic acid to pH 5.6. [Pg.243]

Magnesium Chloride occurs as colorless flakes or crystals. It contains six molecules of water of hydration. It is hygroscopic, very soluble in water, and freely soluble in alcohol. [Pg.259]
